The Decatur Cemetery is the nicest green space in downtown Decatur. It's located about 4 blocks NE of the square and covers over 50 acres. It's usually quiet here and you can walk through the paved roads here without seeing any cars. It's fine to bring your dog here on a leash and they provide mutt mitts to encourage cleanup. The grounds are covered with trees, a lake, a few old structures and graves. The older section of the cemetery is in the National Register of Historic Places and is fascinating to look through. At one time there was a mean duck that used to chase people away from the lake, so move away if you see him paddling your way.
