Small pool with unfriendly environment 2/23/2010

92nd st Y pool is very small, at most 4 narrow lanes (often only 3). It is often insanely crowded with age 65+ floaters blocking your way and complaining about real swimmers. The shallow end is *painfully* shallow, literally speaking. Some of the staff members have an impressively snobbish attitude. They were friendly when they court your membership in the beginning. Totally not worth the sky-high membership fee. There is another pool, with Olympic size just blocks away, which is also expensive, but at least you feel great swimming there. The 92nd st Y pool is for senior citizens who do odd exercises in the pool and bath their back near the pump. more

Great gym for low annual fee! 1/25/2006

I love the Fitness Center at the 92nd Street Y. It was recently renovated and the facilities are great. There's a very large pool with about 5 lap lanes. There is raquetball upstairs and everything is really clean and bright. The weight room is extensive and the cardio equipment is very plentiful and new. The locker room is great. The best part about this whole facility is that yearly membership is very inexpensive. more

Best Bet for Learning and Culture 11/1/2005

In NYC there are lots of places to take classes, however 92nd Street Y not only gives wonderful classes in all sorts of courses but is a World Class Facility. Housed in a beautiful building on 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, you can drop in for a lecture, a class or a date. There are annual events as well as seasonal ones. You can learn a language, dive into your religion or find a great camp for your little ones. (My son went to camp there!) I've taken photography and art classes and my husband belonged to their great gym facility. more

Nice gym 9/19/2005

The 92nd Street Y is truly a nice gym but I have never quite been convinved to sign up for a membership as the hours are not that conducing and I did not believe that the equipment was that amazing. What makes it great are the classes that are wide in selection and very well done from the few I have seen. Overall, definitely worth a look if you are in the market. more

Well equipped and well worth membership 8/19/2005

The 92nd Street Y is not the obvious choice as a gym because you only get the one location to exercise in (unlike the chain gyms that offer locations around the city). However, if you live nearby, it is a very worthwhile choice. The pool there is spacious and there is plenty of exercise equipment. My favorite part of the gym is that there is a huge jacuzzi spa right in the shower area so that you can work out the kinks and then shower off straight away. more

Day and sleepover camp 8/11/2005

92nd St. Y has a large selection of camp programs. There are daycamps for every age beginning with age 6. The kids are picked up by bus at local meeting stops and bussed to Rockland County. There are plenty of activities and lot's of swimming. Best of all, there are overnight options for 1 or 2 weeks, so your camper can 'test drive' readiness to attend overnight camp. more

The Best Y Has To Offer 7/10/2005

Whether its a lecture, sports activity, lessons in a hundred and one different subjects .... Whether it's for the very young or very old ... the 92nd Street Y has something to offer. For those 60+ the Y has an activities program that's unbeatable. It cost $345 a year and it includes exercise classes, bridge lessons including supervised play, language classes, reading groups, art lessons, music lessons, and lectures. more

Great Facility 6/21/2005

The 92nd street y is famous for all the programming it has. They offer many famous speakers as well as classes ranging from dance, art, and literature. The gym at the Y is actually very good also. It has a full basketball court and they offer a range of leagues including bball and volleyball. A number of my friends like the pool there as well. The only problem is the hours since it is closed for the sabbath more
