I can't lie; Barnes & Noble is good too. But they still can't beat Davis-Kidd. This store is so supportive of writers and readers. Every week there's a reading with an author; sometimes it's a local person, but often it's a big name. I've seen Nick Hornby, Malachy McCourt and Candace Bushnell. The store is a meeting point for readers' groups. Every time I visit I have to check out the front section, where employees recommend books and all of the new fiction and nonfiction is displayed.
Davis-Kidd has an excellent children's section and has a daily StoryTime. There's also a stationery and gift section. The store even has a little cafe. It's a bit pricey for what they offer, but dessert and coffee won't break your wallet.
