Best seafood in the Midwest 1/24/2011

Davis Street Fishmarket is an awesome restaurant. I wish there was one in Chicago. However, it is worth the drive to Evanston to have dinner there. Obviously seafood is not what Chicago is known for, so having a wonderful place like Davis Street for lobster, crab legs, gumbo, is awesome! Thanks for many great lunches and dinners! more

Evanston has better seafood options 6/5/2010

The restaurant was empty, yet crumbs and grease streaked the table. Somebody couldn't be bothered to clean up. Not a good first impression. Davis Street Fishmarket is known for its fresh fish, but we were disappointed on all counts. An appetizer of New Bedford Clam Strips was three parts fried dough to one part clam. The Steamed Maine Whole Lobster was overcooked and a little tough, sweet but too chewy. The tin of drawn butter was dotted with mysterious unappetizing flecks. Grilled Sea Scallops and Sea Bass were merely satisfactory. No special spices or touch of sea salt to enhance flavor -- just the same old drawn butter. The seafood itself was edible, but more Red-Lobster than fresh fish market. Pros: Good bread Cons: Fish is merely mediocre, Greasy tabletops more

Spectacular Seafood 3/7/2007

Everything is great. The firecracker shrimps and blackened calamari appetizers are wonderful. We're very pleased with the main course as well (trout and grouper). We'll definitely go back again and again soon. Pros: Great food, decent service Cons: valet parking takes a long time more

Evnaston's version of Red Lobster 5/19/2006

Mediocre at best. Scallops were overdone, gumbo was bland, but the beer was cold and that saved the evening. Probably too much on the menu to really specialize in great tasting entres. It's probably a real treat for NU students, but for a more mature palate, this place is just average. Pros: enthusiastic servers Cons: chain rest. food more

I have been here on several occassions for lunch, dinner etc. and overall it is pretty good (the food as well as the service). i don't ever remember the restaurant getting too crowded. My friends call me a cake connoiseur and their Chocolate Drunk Cake.....is worth trying! Cons: Parking more

fun casual atmosphere, good seafood with specials that change daily. gets a little noisy and seating gets a bit close when crowded. more

bitch bass 12/13/2002

the food at Davis Street Fishmarket is overall awsome resturant. The server did not seem to be on top of things. the ambience is so interesting and fun to look at. Not having a manger present to see how everything is going to me is very unprofessional. To me the great food makes up for some of cons of the resturant. Pros: great food Cons: bad service, not clean, no manager present more

Friendly confines 11/26/2002

Their soups are worth the visit alone. . . great oysters. . . friendly staff. . . relaxed seating in the oyster-bar area Pros: Casual dining, Great food, Friendly staff Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Great Crab! 10/29/2002

I went to check out the ""Crab Bash"" expecting a bait and switch menu - but was SO happy when they actually delivered what was promised. We had GREAT snow crab, and plenty of it - all at a price not to be found in the city. The appetizer of steamed mussles were great and garlic-y! My six year old son was well occupied with color-on menus, crayons and kid cups. I was surprised at how packed the place was on a Tuesday. I will be back soon to try the much hailed creole menu!! more

Crab Bash rules 10/22/2002

My family had dinner here last night. My wife had the tilapia - excellent. I took advantage of the $14.95 crab legs. I was surprised by the quality and the amount of crab I received for that price. It's really a great deal. The restaurant was kid friendly and the selection of seafood was unparalleled. Pros: value, quality Cons: parking more

Kickin' Creole in Chicago 8/21/2002

Some of the best cajun/Creole seafood I've had outside of Louisiana! The server was very attentive, gave honest suggestions, and was very friendly without being overbearing. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially those homesick for the South (like me!) Pros: Good atmosphere, Many menu options, Great service Cons: Parking more

coast comes to Evanston 8/10/2002

It's the only place I've found that has seafood that tastes as good as if your on the east or west coast. more

Great Seafood... Go See It! 8/8/2002
