Best

Fongs is my favorite Twin Cities restaurant. Great food, beautiful traditional decor, awesome Mai Tai's.

Worst

I ordered take-out and was disappointed in the food, particularly the shrimp toast. Pros: null Cons: null

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/2/2012

I've tried this restaurant once, ordering take-out, and was not impressed. The shrimp toast was disappointing and greasy and the chicken chow mien was average. I may try it again on the theory that my last experience was just not a good day, but I won't go out of my way to do so. more

Great food 5/1/2009

I am baffled by all the bad reviews for Fong's. Everyone I know loves this place and it's always packed. No, it's not gourmet authentic Chinese but that's not what they promise. I think it's delicious, decently priced, and the staff has always been great. more

Worst chinese ever ate in My life. 12/20/2008

The food was too bad. They dont know the basic cooking knowledge of chinese cooking. They cannot even get the basic chowmein cooked right. All items we ate were blasted and we had to throw the whole food in trash. Please take my advice and never eat there and get ur self slaughtered. Every dish the chicken smells / stinks bad. more

Dine-in, Take-out, & Special Events 10/16/2008

Chinese-American food at its best. You truly walk back in time as you enter the restaurant, from the decor to the waitresses uniforms. Service is efficient and food is excellent. The dinning room is comfortable. The lower level is reserved for large groups and special events. The bar is casual for the eat alone diner or those there just to socialize, a few tables are located outside. The daily take-out special is enough for two and always hot and ready to go. Prices are moderate. \r \r PROS: Great Food and Nostalgia to match more

Back to childhood... 8/31/2008

I'm an American born Chinese, and I was brought up on authentic Chinese, American, and American-Chinese food. David Fong's definitely brings back the memories of the American-Chinese food I had as a kid. Yes, I would agree that it is not traditional Chinese food one would find overseas, but this is definitely great America-Chinese food. The Americanized chicken chow mein, egg foo young, sweet and sour pork, etc. is all good! I also love the retro decor of the place. It definitely shows this is a traditional Bloomington 70s restaurant, unlike the newer retro restaurants one would find in Uptown. Since this is a family-run establishment, you can tell the servers there treat you like family as well, a place that is frozen in time! So, this Chinese American gives it an A+! Pros: Service; the American-Chinese food; Bloody Mary's Cons: they don't deliver more

Poor service, bad food 8/20/2007

This was my first time there and I will never return. My dish was supposed to be hot and I told the waitress that I wanted it really spicy and it was not spicy. My father had the kung pao chicken and it was bland. The pop was flat Everyone that ordered pop had flat pop and we ordered different kind of beverages. The flatware did not match and it looked quite old, when our order arrived not all of it came at the same time. I have not seen a waitress who was so unprofessional, I will NEVER go here again. more

LAST WEEKEND I WENT TO FONGS WITH S0ME OF MY BUDDYS. WE WAITED AT THE DOOR ALMOT 15 MINZ,,AFTER THE WAITER CAME TO SAT US DOWN,,POOR SERVICE,,AND THE FOOD CHINESS OR AMERICAN?? I CAN'T TELL...BAD COMBINATION........... more

Below Average 5/25/2007

High prices, below average food and poor service. My husband and I waited for 10 minutes before they even took our drink order and the place wasn?t all that busy. Then this lady patron let her grand-daughter run all over the place like an untamed monkey and nobody said anything to her. The food wasn?t all that great it was just average to say the least. Pros: None Cons: Poor everything more

Minnesota Chinese 2/5/2006

Bad food, goofy decor, and hash-slinger waitresses. Fong's is a strange combination of steakhouse and Chinese restaurant that just doesn't work at all well. Food is neither authentic nor very good. Pros: REALLY strong drinks more

Customers know best! 10/8/2003

I have no idea how the editor rated this so poorly- Fong's is the first place my family visits on the way home from the airport after a trip because we can count on it to be fabulous every time. The cream cheese wontons are the best, the quality of the meat is unparalleled in the world of Chinese food, and the service is outstanding. And this is one of the only restaurants I've been to where you can customize the flavor of your food from spicy to mild- so you know it hasn't been sitting around in the kitchen all night long. No matter how picky you are abotu Chinese, you won't be disappointed. Try the beef with peapods or the (all white meat) sesame chicken. Phenomenal! Pros: FOOD FOOD FOOD, attentive service, intimate atmosphere Cons: Not Safest Location, loud karaoke sometime more

comfort food for boomers 1/26/2003

If you're tiring of the fusion cuisines, and you get a craving for foods you had when you were young like your first introduction to American Chinese food, then this is the place to come, and no one in the Twin Cities does it better. Steak kew, chicken almond ding, chow mein, egg foo young, all old fashioned Cantonese-style recipes made with high quality ingredients. Yum! more

Whoo Hooo 1/17/2003

Great place to relax and enjoy the delicious cuisine! Staff is excellent. Drinks are strong. more

Fast & Delicious 1/13/2003

We went into Fong's hungry for some good Chinese food, and we were in a hurry. They didn't let us down. The food was served quickly and was extremely delicious. The protions were very hearty suiting me very well as a larger guy. I had enough to re-heat for lunch the next day. I would recommend Fong's to anyone seeking really good and fresh (not heat-lamped buffet food) Chinese food. Pros: affordable, quick, fresh more

Chinese American like no other! 11/24/2002

The world could use more David Fongs'. Too bad there are only three, one in Bloomington, Savage, and in Prior Lake. Everytime I'm in David Fong's I recieve excellent service and most importantly of all unparalleled food. Each dish has been brought to perfection. There's no wonder why David Fong's has been successful since it began in 1958. Whenever I'm there all I overhear from customers is praise and compliments. Make no mistake, if you want the best Chinese-American food David Fong's is the place to go. Pros: none Cons: quality food, good prices, excellent service more
