Great teachers, Bad management. 5/19/2008

Some of the best teachers around although I will admit that they are focused on competition. Their recitals are among the best I've ever witnessed. The themes are very clever and well produced. It's a true shame that Ed is no longer with them because I believe he was the creative force behind much of this. Overall they have excellent teachers and excellent students.\r On the other hand the management is horrible. (LO)\r Unorganized and very out of touch and out of date.\r Just focused on getting her money. Pros: Good teachers. Sabrina, Charyl, Tracy Cons: Lori, Ed is no longer there more

Other Stuff 5/13/2008

Just a few more comments about recent reviews on this site. First and foremost I know the owner both as a business woman and a personal friend and those who say she is in it for the money are flat out wrong. I see what she goes through and the love she has for the dancers at the studio and without fail she has more passion in her little finger than most do in their whole body. Second in response to an individual making the studio what it is today. Folks dancers make the studio and while the teachers have a large impact the dancers go out at each competition and show others what our studio is about. Our success is the direct reflection of many but no one person makes a studio. The studio was there (and successful) before he got there and will be there long after and I have no doubt continue to be a great place for guys and girls to grow-up with good values and great teachers! more

LESSONS NEED IN GOOD MANNERS 4/27/2008

I AM A DANCE TEACHER AND HAVE BEEN TO MANY COMPETITIONS OVER THE LAST 6 YEARS AND WHILE THEY ARE EXCELLENT DANCERS I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS SUCH RUDE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS IN MY LIFE THEN FROM DANCE PRODUCTION STUDIO. ITS A GOOD THING THEY ARE NOT JUDGED ON BEHAVIOR BACKSTAGE! THEY MIGHT NEED A CLASS IT MANNERS AND HOW TO BE\r GOOD SPORTS ALONG WITH THEIR DANCE TRAINING... more

Compettion Dance Studio 4/20/2008

I was a dance parent at DP for many years. The studio is located in a nice building with proper dance floors which prevent children from getting hurt. The instruction in all areas of dance are pretty good with the exception of the ballet program the years I was at DP. The soloists of the studio at that time were encouraged to take outside ballet classes. I have been informed by parent currently at DP that new teacher has improved the ballet program. Regarding Ed Phelan, he was a very good choreographer but not a great teacher. He was wonderful to your child if they were one of the ""stars"" of the studio. If not, he barely would recognize your child. The studio is only a ""money pit"" if your child is part of the competion team. They do have numerous fund raisers for parents to help pay competion costs. Yearly recital is at Ovens and it is a ""family friendly"" show. Overall, a good competiton studio which means dancers are taught to dance a 3 minute routine, not how to perform. Pros: Studio building, Friendly teachers Cons: Cost more

BEWARE 4/12/2008

Let me start by saying: this is a first hand account from a student who danced at this studio. \r Whoever is writing these reviews is sadly mistaken, Ed completely built the dance productions competition team. Ed no longer works with dance productions which is a huge loss for them. He is one of the most talented teachers on the east coast and will have no trouble finding a new studio. There are 2 real problems at this studio first, the Director, is only out for one thing.. MONEY. The second problem is the students and parents on the team, they all have nasty attitudes which is shown where ever they make an appearance. (at a competition) Don't let their fake ""family friendly show"" mislead you, the studio is a money trap and negative environment. more

Best Dance Studio 11/13/2007

I was completely shocked to read these reviews when I was looking for the website for my daughters dance studio! My oldest daughter is in her third year at DP, she just turned 6, my youngest is 2 and just started. Never, have I witnessed anything but positive feedback at all times from the staff. The are absoultely caring, professional and get to know each and every single student and their family. They stepped in and helped me when they saw that I was struggling with a problem. You will never hear an instructor yell at a student, that would never be tolerated by any member of DP. There is a very good reason why, if you came to a recital that DP put on the dancers perform and it isn't because the instructors are waiting backstage with a whip. The children love their teachers and they are taught throughout the year with care and they get onstage and want to perform. And at the end of every single performance we applaud, when the instructors are introduced we applaud also and the same thing happens when awards are given out. To say that they don't even want to get up to accept the award is hilarious to me. Jealousy is a bitter pill to have to swallow, it's unfortunate that every dance studio isn't run with the same standards as DP, but to try to make them out to be bitter, evil, lazy and self rightous is just unfortunate and doesn't say very much to your character. more

Dancd Productions is a Great Place 7/10/2007

I am so sorry that people are playing such games with the children at Dance Productions. They are fantastic young people, that work hard, play fair and dedicated to thier dance education. It is a shame that people enjoy saying such untrue things about them online. All you have to do is visit the studio and in an instant your mind would be changed. I think people need to get away from the computer and jump on the dance floor, it is healthy!!! Use your time in a positive manner!\r The Dance Productions Family is having a wonderful season! Positive Attitudes!!! Lots of Fun!!! If you have any questions, call the studio and give us your name and we will be happy to speak iwth you 704 598-8288 or better yet, stop in person and we will give you a tour!!! Pros: Great Young People Cons: Not 8 days in a week to dance more

Great studio and we know from experience!!! 7/10/2007

Great Studio! It saddens me to think people write things that are just not true.. It is sad to be negative about any studio and not to get the right one is even worse. My advice take that energy and put it into the art you have chosen DANCE! The teachers at Dance Productions are creative and go above and beyond to give my child a fun, energetic and learning atmosphere.. She is a senior this year and has enjoyed every year she has been involved with this studio.. She was happy at her previous studio and was moved here with her team.. Never had a problem with the transition what so ever. The kids are expected to work and to attend.. what studio does not expect that of their kids.. If you don't ,there is no growth. If I have ever had a concern about my child's dance education they were glad to meet with me and discuss it in private. The up front and center of any one child is a lot of pressure.. If you think your child can take that pressure I am sure if you spoke to the director and instructor your child would be allowed to try... My advice to anyone questioning where to put their child in dance is to try the studio out and Dance Productions always has open doors.. It is just weather or not you choose to give it a try. I drive over 40 minutes one way to get my child there and have done so for over 7 years!! I pass 3 dance studios on the way.. I would say that they must be pretty good at DP!!! My child is involved in competition and we have competed from the West Coast to the East Coast. The team has won many times. It is not about winning to me or to my child which speaks volumes.. It is about having fun while being educating in dance.. It is all about class as we say at DP!!!!!!!! My review is the same today as it was in 07!!!!!!!!! more

Good Talent Bad Attitudes 7/8/2007

Dance productions is a very talented studio. I love watching their routines but I have also observed something else about this studio. They have absolutely horrible attitudes. The kids have learned from the staff to expect nothing but 1st overalls. They expect to win and are not excited at all when they do. I have witnessed them win top studio and not even get up to get the award and when asked to come get it a few of them went up to get it and just stood there. This past weekend I saw them at another competition where my studio beat them more than a few times. They definately were not happy about it at all. There main competition teacher refused to watch there dances by the last day of competition and didn't even show up to awards. People at DP that are friends with people at my studio wouldn't talk to us. I have never seen anyone ask so immature as this studio did. These are just a few of the things I witnessed. I think it is horrible that the kids learned this behavior from the studio it is observable from the teachers and youngest kids. The attitudes I saw were completely ridiculous and I would be ashamed if that were my studio and teachers. \r more

Typical Competition Studio 5/14/2007

Dance Productions is a decent but very typical competition dance studio. If you want your child to learn how to dance to 3 minute numbers and do ""tricks"", then it is fine. If you want your child to learn how to dance and perform, take them elsewhere so they can learn technique. If your child is interested in dancing in college, get them out of a ""competiiton"" studio like Dance Productions when they enter HS.\r \r Dance Productions has a ""star"" system and you would be foolish not to be aware of it. Check out the dancers in the front of all the competion numbers, they are the same dancers for the most part. If your child is not a ""star"", they will be ignored. Dance Productions has been strong in tap, jazz and lyrical for years but it's weakness is ballet which is very important. Dance Productions does not offer ""Modern"" classes and this is essential if your child wants to continue dancing after HS.\r \r Regarding some of these reviews, quite a few sound like they are ""paid"" advertisements. The truth is somewher in the middle. Dance Productions does have some good and friendly teachers. The studio is pretty nice and they do have ""safe"" floors. Their recital is a bit different from other studios and they should get a little credit for doing something different . On the down side, management has always been disorganized. They will try and charge you for every little thing possible and check your ""competition"" statement like a ""hawk"". \r \r \r more
