Just spent the day at the DMA with my boy friend. Perfect date venue!

It was a very hot Saturday in July, and the very rude and absurd security guard made me throw my empty cup away in a trash can outside (over a dozen feet away). There was also a ...

Treasures to suit every taste 4/1/2006

A heavily underrated museum, the DMA has an amazing collection of treasures awaiting anyone on a trip down-town. While not host to any of the Mona Lisas or Venus of Willendorfs of the world, the galleries host enough treasures from all over the world and from so many different eras that it would take days to take it all in. It hosts many works by well-known Western painters like Monet and Picasso, as well as artifacts from ancient Rome and pre-Colombian America, and everything else in between. Temporary exhibits are of the highest caliber, in the past featuring such themes as Renoir's paintings from French Algeria and treasures from the Forbidden City, much of which had never been displayed to the public before. It is host to lectures and the popular Thursday "Late Nights" that keep the galleries open late and host performances, movie screenings, and free coffee. Part of the vibrant arts district, they often hold events together with the nearby Trammell Crow Collection. General admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $7 for seniors. Children 12 and under get in free. Should you buy a ticket to one of the special temporary exhibits, general admission is included. I highly recommend this museum for an outing, once, twice, and multiple times. I never get tired of going back! more

museum 12/30/2005

This museum is fairly cheap and has a ton of exhibits to look at. It's a great place to go with friends, by yourself, or with family. Whenever I go there, I want to stay there for hours. There is a lot to see that you can spend a few hours there and not get bored of anything. more

Lovely Museum 10/17/2005

The DMA is more than just an Art Museum. Yes it does have Art...a Wide Variety in fact. But more than that it is a place that brings the community together. The DMA is constantly holding functions and galas, they provide classes for youngsters and adults alike. There are nights of music and food, friends and Art. The Dallas Museum of Art is truly inspirational. They do host most of the exhibits that tour the country. But beside those exhibits, they have a massive collection of art ranging from pottery to oil painting, from contemporary to modern all a part of the permanent collection (they do rotate through, so what you see there your first visit, might be replaced the second time.) Located in Downtown, it is a fantastic museum to visit with a Date. Spend the afternoon viewing the masters and then head on over to some of the upscale bars and restaurants nearby. more

Great for Field Trips 9/6/2005

My kids love to do field trips here. I have taken them a few times and they love it. It is an adventure for the family. The kids love to see art that is all scribbles because it makes them think they can produce art also. It also widens their minds to other types of art not just pictures.  more

Elegant night out 8/25/2005

This is a great place to take your family or your spouse. It is fun and very educational. The works are very beautiful and unique. They always have new shows so it is always "new" no matter when you go. It is very inexpensive to take your family or your date. more

nice place for the family 8/21/2005

This is the place to go if you like to browse great art work. You can spend hours here looking at the different art work they have on display. They usually have some planned activites also, they have a place for children to play which gives them a little break from walking or being in a stroller. They even offer Tai Chi, and things of that nature. more

Dallas Museum of Art 8/18/2005

The DMA has an awesome permanent collection and often has very exciting temporary exhibits as well. They have special "late nights" hours and activities for those who are interested; this is a great time to see who comes out of the woodwork to the art museum! Admission is reasonable, and there are discounts for also visiting the Nasher Sculpture Center. You can become a museum member and get perks with each visit. more

Beautiful museum, expensive admission 8/18/2005

The Dallas museum has a great collection. Whenever I'm feeling like the grind is getting me down I head over there for a couple of hours. They have enough diversity in their permanent collection that there's bound to be something for everyone. The building is well designed. It's open enough that you can really get involved with the paintings and sculptures, but still dignified. Their rotating exhibits are impressive and varied. They also have wonderful ongoing events, such as Late Nights, summer art camp, and many programs for families. I just wish general admission wasn't so expensive. I've been to cities that have museums that are almost as nice but are free. There are nights, however, when the admission fees are waived. more

I can spend hours here! 8/17/2005

This is where my husband and I went on our first date! I have always enjoyed art museums and some of my favorite pieces of art can be found here. The facility is beautiful, stroller friendly and a favorite place of my family. We like to bring a picnic and eat outside under a tree for a little while, then going back in for the other wing of the building. It's quite impressive! more

Great Gallery 8/17/2005

This is a great gallery that has fine art come through it. The architecture of the DMA is fantastic, although it is hard to compare to some of the museums in New York City and Chicago. But all the popular exhibits come trough the DMA and it is a nice and relaxing place to go and check out the wonderful art of our world. The staff there is always very friendly and helpful. It is located right in downtown, so the DMA can be a part of a day exploring the downtown Dallas area. more

The Dallas Museum of Art 8/16/2005

The DMA is a really great Museum. You may have heard of some of their promotions in the past, such as Impressionist paintings, works by Picasso, and many other famous and talented artists. It definitely is worth the visit. I have seen many famous paintings there over the years. On Thursday nights you can go hear nice jazz music (still, I hope) and eat at the small cafe there inside. The gift shop also has all sorts of interesting puzzles and gifts for kids and adults alike. more

Dallas Museum of Art 8/16/2005

The DMA is an all encompassing art museum. It has everything from ceramic pots of early humans to modern art. I literally spent three hours and only saw half the exhibit. The DMA also has an impressive collection of oil paintings. Works by Monet, Pollock, Rothko, and Dali can be seen just inches away. Be sure to check out the Monets and notice his progression as an artist. more

Museum Review 8/15/2005

Dallas Museum of Arts located in downtown Dallas. It is a pretty good Museum. It occupied a big building with several floor spaces. It has good exhibition. It is not world class. I don't think any museum in the Metro Dallas area can be compared with those in New York, DC or Los Angeles. But It is one of the best one in city of Dallas. There are a couple museum in the Fort Worth area that are good too but Dallas Museum of Arts is the bigger one. Sometimes, they will provide free kids program to introduce kid's to arts. It is a good family weekend destination. more

Great Value on Thursday Nights - FREE! 8/10/2005

The Dallas Museum of Art hosts an impressive collection of art spanning the centuries. They have Greek and Roman collections, Asian and African Art well as many European classics. They also have rotating displays and contemporary collections. You could easily spend two days at the DMA even if you are not an 'art buff'. The DMA features free admission in the evenings on Thursdays (they are open till 9). Also they host some late night events along with Starbucks that go till midnight. For an added treat, take the trolley to Uptown for unique restaurants and shopping. It is also free. more
