Dakin Animal Shelter

A little over 3 years ago, my daughter and I wanted another pet to liven our household. She had talked about the cats at the Leverett shelter and showed the website to me. After looking at the cats, I had given her 5 choices on the one to pick. She stopped in and played with them for quite some time and made the choice for Pluto. He was the right choice for us. He got into the usual trouble being a kitten (climbing the curtains for the most part) but we loved him. One night my daughter had come home from work and I told her I taught Pluto how to play fetch and she didn't believe me until I showed her over and over. He is a smart cat and we love him every day. He's just a little more than 3 years old now but he still runs full speed throughout the house while playing hide and seek with my daughter. We couldn't have gotten a better pet for our home. Dakin is a great shelter that gives homeless and unwanted cats, kittens, dogs and puppies a second chance at life. Located in rural Leverett, MA, Dakin provides shelter service for animals that people can no longer keep, as well as strays who have lost their way. Dakin also runs and supports many spay/neuter and trap and release programs, to help end the pet overpopulation problem that not only exists everywhere, but also exists in our own town. Dakin also offers many great community events, and has grown to be the place that many turn when they are in need of shelter services. more
