Over the past few years, our local Dairy Queen has sunk lower and lower and this summer seems to have hit rock bottom.
My husband and I went about two weeks ago. The gal at the window wasn't very pleasant, but we didn't say anything. My small ice cream cone was a joke. The ice cream was no more than 1"" taller than the lip of the cone itself. It was worse than the mini cones I've seen. When I said something the gal just said ""that's the small."" I told her there were other places in town to buy ice cream and there was no response.
Last week, I purchased ice cream for my co-workers. I asked for the boxed ice cream product as it's made somewhere else and shipped in. Instead, without telling me, the employee gave me ""locally"" made dilly bars and buster bars. The local shop has long had a reputation for pumping way too much air into their ice cream. Even when it's warm and not hot outside, the ice cream is melting as it's handed out the window.
I didn't get 1 minute from the shop when I looked over and the ice cream was running through the bags they were packaged in. It was 65 degrees outside. This is caused by too much air. The explanation the shop likes to give is that the machines aren't cooling well that day; but, every time for years, isn't ""that day.""
We opened the bars in the office less than 5 minutes after purchase and the chocolate coating was more like a chocolate smear on the product. You could see the ice cream and very little chocolate. There literally were no shells on any of the bars. It was ridiculous.
We have known employees at this shop in the past and they all have said the same thing....
They are constantly being told by the owner to make everything smaller and to use as little toppings, etc as they can. Several of the people we knew were so embarrassed by what they were told to serve that they quit.
I thought DQ products were sold by weight, not volume. I'm sending a note to the franchise office to take a look into this shop. DQ ice cream is not cheap by any means, but the owners of this particular shop are.
