Great Neighborhood Hangout 5/26/2009

Open from 7.00am to 4.00pm daily and now operating under the name New Deal Cafe (the market is gone), the menu is restricted to breakfast and lunch, but the same friendly neighborhood atmosphere remains. We'd love to see the return of casual dinners and gelato on the back patio now that summer is back. more

great pizza and very kid friendly! 2/7/2008

I love the atmosphere of this cafe and have never had a bad latte. The breakfast is wonderful and I am addicted to their smoked apple salad dressing. The staff are always friendly and know not to make my kids hot chocolate too hot...and it is great to have a place in the neighborhood that we can walk to. Pros: kid friendly, fast service, great food! Cons: crowded on the weekends more

Good Food, Friendly Service, (room for improvement, tho) 4/22/2007

We have been frequenting the Daily Market since it opened, glad to have an alternative to Violet's (too long of a wait) and Biscuit's (yuk) in the neighborhood. Consistently good pastries, specials are definitely worth a look, lots of options, deli-style! If you want to be ""pampered"", this is not the place for you. Seating can be an adventure, Wi-Fi users can dominate a large space for a LONG time, that should be curtailed, if only during peak hours on the weekends. This is the type of place that goes out of their way to get you what you want, even if it takes a few tries. One tiny thing though, breakfast line cooks should know inherently how to cook eggs! I've been in Food&Beverage for 20 years, and it is hard to get someone to cook a decent egg, I know, but come on! Over Easy, Over Medium, Over Well, Over Hard. Each egg has a distinct difference which is lost on these boys. Every egg comes out one of two ways, soft or hard. No nuance taken to coax the egg to that wonderfully soft yolk yet firm white. Work on that, kids!!! We still love you, though. Pros: Quick and friendly Service, Great Pastries Cons: Wi-Fi Table Hogs, limited seating more

Great neighborhood cafe 1/13/2007

I love this place! I use to live in the neighborhood and wished for a place like this. Now I drive over from SE for the to die for smoked apple vinergarette dressing on their salads, great homemade soups, and the breakfast choices are always great. I don't know what the last person who wrote in was talking about. I am there every week and always get friendly service. The staff always remembers me and knows my drink of choice. Pros: kid friendly, fun atmosphere, great meeting place Cons: no table service more

Best potatoes in Portland! 11/24/2006

Great place for breakfast and lunch. Fast service, and they have the best pan fried potatoes I've had since I moved away from New Orleans. The scones are to die for. Great beer selection too. Pros: great potatoes, great coffee and scones Cons: no cover for outside tables more

confusing menu, greasy grilled sandwiches 10/4/2006

this place looks really great but when you get up to the counter to order, the entire menu is on a chalk board that's hard to read, confusing, and would be much better to peruse at my leisure at a table, rather than ordering at the counter. the food portions are generous but quality is inconsistent. the grilled sandwiches are greasy, the biscuits are dry and a funny yellow color, but the gelato is killer. Pros: kids play space, lots of seating, nice market Cons: inconsistent food quality, confusing menu more
