My friend suggested this hole in the wall one day during the summer and he had not been there before
and so we went in for breakfast. Well we ordered the daily special of breakfast sandwiches and coffee
and we both noticed that the food prices were not printed on the laminated menus we read. We figured
it would be reasonable and boy o' boy did we get the shock of the morning when the owner rung up our
orders and each one came to over $14.00 with tax! I couldn't believe what we were charged and I must
say that to be fair to us and other patrons who will go there for food and beverages that the owner ought
to post the prices on the menus. At least the coffee refills are free and I do think the food was just okay
in taste and quality and the Daily Grind is overcharging for the breakfast sandwiches! I must add too that
the owner assumed that we were from out of town because that day I wore a Chicago Cubs ballcap
and jersey and he even asked us if we were in town to see a Rays game. Now both my friend and I
are Florida residents living here year round and I was very annoyed that the owner of this place just
assumed that we were tourists! Since he assumed this to be the case perhaps that is why we were
charged so much money for the breakfast, I also think this place ought to accept debit & credit cards
and they take only cash. Many people who work in the downtown St. Petersburg area do not carry
cash especially the tourist crowd who visit during the season. Neither my friend nor I will return to
the Daily Grind since they are so overpriced and the food was just alright, I must also add that the
average fast food breakfast sandwich at Burger King or McDonald's is even more tasty and a much
better value for the money. The owner should not assume every patron to be a tourist or visiting from
out of state and he was not very friendly in fact he was a bit cold in his demeanor!
Pros: Decent menu choices, free coffee refills.
Cons: Way overpriced! Prices not on laminated menu, accept only cash, need to take credit/debit!
