The food is delicious, but the prices are way too high... $100 for 3 guys, I think is a total ripoff, we had a lamb karee, chicken karee and Egg plant curry with a bottle of wine ...

Traditional Afghan meal 12/5/2009

Let's see, I love the bread at Da Afghan, their nan-bread is always served very warm and soft and is very compatible to their homemade chutney sauces. Their lamb kabob was to die for, it may have been the most tender lamb I have ever had? Food quality was very acceptable and portions sized very well. I would recommend Da Afghan, which is some people's ""Little secret,"" to anyone looking for a traditional afghan meal or just some flavor. Pros: Lamb, atmosphere, service Cons: Hard to find, odd location more

Mpls's best Afghan Cuisine - Lamb and fantastic service! 11/17/2008

OK first, I do have to admit that it was difficult to find the place...but WOW... it is definitely worth it!! The owner of the restaurant greeted our party of 4 as we walked in; we knew right away that it was a small quality family restaurant with very proud owners. The service was exceptional; the server explained the specialty items, the popular dishes, and highly recommended the lamb chops, which he said come directly from Rogers Farm in Hutchinson! A friend in our party and I consider ourselves lamb experts and were tempted but not sure of the lamb chops. But we trusted the waiter, and I am so glad we did! That night, both of us had the moistest, tenderest, and perfectly seasoned lamb chops with fine basmati rice, tomato based korma sauce, and some fresh vegetables? Afghan cuisine definitely won me over, it was the perfect choice. Overall I highly recommend the Da Afghan, we had never heard of it, but I will definitely be going back! Pros: Food, Service, Afghan Waiter, Hospitality, Afghan Decor on the Walls Cons: Location - just mapquest it and you'll be fine! more

Total Rip OFF 8/6/2008

The food is delicious, but the prices are way too high... $100 for 3 guys, I think is a total ripoff, we had a lamb karee, chicken karee and Egg plant curry with a bottle of wine ($20) , there are better restaurants than this one with more quality food and reasonable prices, The waiter added gratuity for 3 people, which is very unfair, I think there should be atleast 5 people on the table to add gratuity, but for 3 it just BS. I'd never recommend this restaurant ....... Pros: Food Cons: High Prices, Location, Gratuity for 3 people more

Please try it 2/23/2008

Perhaps I have eaten out too often in the past 25 years but tonight I said, this is a memorable meal. My husband ordered the beef tenderloin kabob, I had the kofta. I can't wait for the leftovers, even the rice was amazingly good with almonds and raisins. The wine list was simple but inexpensive. The service was personable and efficient. All Bloomington Knights of Columbus and spouses should try it (walking distance). more

Food and Service is Exceptional 10/22/2007

Family owned and operated and it shows! You truly feel like you are eating dinner in a close family friend's home. The servers made great recommendations of food to try and delivered great service. This restaurant delivers a value that you won't find many other places; an abundance of delectable homemade food awaits you at a reasonable price! Pros: Lunch buffet, service, food, ambience more

everything about this place is average 3/28/2006

i found my food rather flavourless...my companions liked their lamb...so that evens out. the server was trying to be funny by being rude...that evens out.. place is tough to find, but they give good directions, so call them... not too expensive, but definitely not an economical place either.. i probably will not be going back there again. Pros: lots of choice Cons: low flavour more

Just had their food 1/21/2006

Me and my wife just visited their place. We had no trouble finding this place. Seems like they had heard about the complaints added a few signs and they were really helpful. Both me and my wife found their food to be below average. Both of us had afghani food before and we were expecting a similar experience. I ordered a chicken dish and it turned out too be too soupy, plus the potato was raw. My wife's orderd lamb tikkah kebab and we found her kebab to be too chewy for our taste. The service was very good though, but the food was below par and we even got charged for the bread. Pros: service, bread, ambiance Cons: food, location more

Bad experience 3/1/2005

Ate at (the?) Da Afgan last night. Had not been there in years. Remembered it as being quite unique and good. The place has declined to the point of no return. Decor was shabby. Food was just as shabby (rubbery pasta, tough lamb stew, muted flavors). The pride in making a fine meal has apparently vaporized. Maybe an off night? Tough, this is never an excuse. more

fantastic meat 8/10/2003

For a year or so, the owners of Da Afghan ran an ""Express"" version of their restaurant in Dinkytown; we were heartbroken when it closed in early 2002. But we finally made the trek down to the ""main"" restaurant in Bloomington, and the food was even better there. The prices are a little steep, though; even with a Happenings coupon and no drinks, the final damage (for two) was over $30. Pros: Excellent food, Unique, Friendly Cons: Strange location, A little expensive more

Absolutely Fabulous 8/8/2003

Definitley one of the best resturants I have been to in a long time. Highly recommended. It's a little hard to find but so worth it. Pros: excellent food, friendly service, good parking more

The Best Restaurant in Town! 7/23/2003

My husband and I are regulars here and we love it. The Friday night lamb shank is not to be missed. Even if you don't like lamb you will like the lamb served here! We love to eat here because we are treated like family. It is very authentic - the owners, waiter and cooks are all from Afganistan. There is only one waiter and he is very professional and can wait on all the tables in the restaurant and no one is upset because they have to wait too long. The wine list is very good and inexpensive. The Afghan cream tea is awesome and they server the best baklava in town. The food is very healthy and low fat. You can eat here if you are dieting and they have excellent vegetarian food. It's just the best. Pros: Food, Service, Inexpensive more

Highly recommend 2/24/2003

I love this place. The food is always wonderful and the staff is attentive, professional and pleasant. One may want to make a reservation on a weekend, but there is usually seating available Monday thru Thursdays. This is a great restaurant to bring a vegetarian. Pros: staff, food, parking Cons: odd local more

Baaaahhhh!! 11/17/2002

A group of 6 of us visited Da Afghan Saturday night. We were very confused as we entered an industrial park and found this restaurant next to a roofing company. Once inside, you don't even think about that. The menu was quite extensive and had something for everyone. A couple of us got the lamb, with a little hesitation, but were very happy we did. Absolutely delicious flavor! I had a couple pieces that were fatty, but the others didn't. I would get it again. Our birthday girl was given a complimentary baklava and the owner even joined in on the singing of ""Happy Birthday"". Great middle eastern food!!! Pros: Delicious lamb, Good prices, Great selection Cons: Lamb had some fat more
