We first got Dish Network in the year 2000. When we got it, we asked about cancellng. We were told there would be no issues of cancelling as long as we returned all of the equipment. We also inquired about moving. They told us there would be no charge for moving, we were to leave the dish, and when we got to our new place, they would provide a new dish--as long as we brought our box.
So, we had to move out of state. When we called to get hooked up again, they charged us $75.00 reactivation fee. Well, that wasn't as we were told. We asked about getting a copy of our contract. They told us they never issued people a paper contract. So, even though we were told one thing upon initial activation, there was no way to prove it, as they wouldn't let us see our contract. In fact, the guy asked "how do I know you're not lying".. Why in the world would I make something up...
Ok, then we moved to a manufactured home park. We couldn't take our satellite service there--it was in their "rules". We called Dish Network and they said that we were breaking contract by stopping service, so we had to pay them $225.00. We told them it was out of our hands and could not be helped. They just told us we owed them $225.00 for breaking contract--again, not willing to show us the contract.
Anyhow, it was the worst service we have ever gotten. The people were absolutely awful to deal with --and I do believe illegal in the way they dealt with us.
We now live elsewhere--have for 4 years. We've had DirecTV the whole time. It never goes out, and we have the option to cancel at any time--AND, we have a paper contract that they gave us when they set us up.
