I write this review with mixed feelings, which I guess is appropriate because I had a mixed experience with D & D. Overall, D & D generally did a good job. But, there were a few key things that ruined the experience for us. If you do the following, I believe you will have a good experience with D & D (or any moving company for that matter): 1) Make sure to get everything in writing (including all costs) and keep copies of it; 2) Make sure that key items are explicitly listed on the inventory; 3) Take pictures of the condition of all major items before the move; 4) Keep track of all payments; 5) Check for damage and for key items on delivery before signing the inventory form.\r

The move: We did a three stage move from Ohio to Michigan starting in March of 2012. In the first stage, we moved some stuff into storage when we put our house on the market. In the second, we moved the rest of the house into storage. In the final stage, everything was moved from storage to our new home in Michigan. At every stage of the move, we offered the movers food and drink, treated them to lunch, and tipped them well. In total, we paid D &D approximately $5500 for the moves and storage.\r

The good:\r
1) Derrek and his father (the owners, I think) are very nice and easy to talk to in person.\r
2) I got quotes from three companies and D & D's quote was the best by about $500.\r
3) It is nice that D & D offers interim storage at reasonable prices in case of delays in the moving process. All items are kept in ""pods"" in a climate controlled warehouse.\r
4) The initial movers (stage 1) were very polite, efficient, and very respectful. \r
5) The majority of items were well taken care of during moving and storage. \r

The bad: \r
Edit: D & D has threatened to sue me for “defamation” due to my previous negative comments about their company in this review. To protect myself, I have removed the specific details. However, in summary, we were not completely satisfied with the 2nd and 3rd stage movers and were unhappy with their billing of our account and the difficulty of the claims process. We were also very concerned about the lack of detail in their move inventory descriptions which made it difficult for us to prove claims after the move. In hindsight, this is at least partially our fault because we should have checked the initial inventory sheet closer. Finally, although they treated us well for most of our relationship, after we had paid our account balance, submitted and argued claims, and posted a review, they quickly became rude.\r
\r
Summary: D & D did a good job with the move but in my opinion their move inventory descriptions, claims process, and customer service can be improved to make the moving process easier for everyone. However, if you follow my advice above, I believe you will have a good experience with them.\r
