Best

Reliable, not-too-expensive Indian Food. Their peshwari naan is the best, and their weekend special samosa is one of my favorite treats.

Avoid! 9/29/2007

Not sure if we caught them at the end of the shift but sorry guys I really wouldn't recommend. The chicken tikka massala was watery and the meat was very poor. The naan bread was overcooked and soggy at the same time. Although the other reviews say that it's good for the price I have to disagree. Avoid at all costs. more

Indian Fast Food and Cafeteria Style 7/2/2006

Get in line and order at the counter from an array of pre-made entrees, I started with the Chicken Tikka Masala and Potatoes Curry. You get two cup fulls of each and a good sized fluffy naan. Dining room is open-brick, high-ceilinged and modern, grab a table or bench and you're ready to chow down. The Tikka Masala was ok, the sauce was pretty bland and the chicken cut up for a stew. The curried potatoes were also ok, but lacking in spiciness. Best part of the meal was the fluffy naan! Overall just an ok place for Indian but it may be as good as you get in the Boston area. Not a bad choice for a quick lunch or dinner but they need to be a bit more aggressive with the flavoring. Pros: Fluffy Naan Cons: Food needs more spices, Grumpy counter lady more

Tasty and Affordable! 2/20/2005

My husband and I love to pick up takeout at Gourmet India. The dining room is loud and normally very busy so we prefer to take the food home. I find the food to be comparable to some other indian restaurants in the area for only a fraction of the price. Highly recommended. Pros: affordable, variety, fast Cons: small portions more

decent... worth going every now and then 5/27/2004

I feel like the quality of Indian restaurants in the Boston area is going down in general, and so I was pleasantly surprised that this relatively cheap self-service joint had pretty good food. The dishes I have had here compared favourably with those of places like Bombay Club, Kabob'n Curry and Bukhara... for about half the price. Other than lunch buffets, I really have no reason to go anywhere else for Indian food other than Gourmet India. One word of caution... the quality (esp. the texture of meat) varies from time to time, sometimes pretty bad. But I guess that comes with the territory of cheap cafeterias where food just sits all day. more

Great value for your dollar! 5/15/2003

I've been to most of the Indian restaurants in Boston. I recently tried Gourmet India in Coolidge Corner and now can't seem to justify paying the high prices at other restaurants. My meal was delicious and plentiful...and I didn't even spend 10 bucks. The people there are rather friendly as well. I highly recommend others check it out. Pros: Value, Fast Cons: No booze more

C-H-E-A-P but not bad! 9/26/2002

Actually, the 1st reviewer is right, you get what you pay for. BUT, if you're in a hurry for lunchtime and in the Coolidge Corner area, you can get a two-course veggie lunch for only $4.50! There are many Indian restaurants better in the area, but when you are on a budget and craving Indian food, this place is where you go. The service is quick and friendly, the decor is ok, and the veggie daily specials are usually your best bet. This is as close to ""fast food Indian"" as you will get! It comes recommended. Pros: Cheap, Quick, Friendly Cons: Parking, Food quality, Decor more

Gourmet India IS GREAT! Don't listen to that guy who claims he knows whats good because he is Indian. If you have a big appetite and you want to eat fast go here. Gourmet India has awesome food at great prices and the people there are really nice. The Chicken Tikki Masala is the best dish there...YUMMMMM. Gourmet india deserves all of the great reviews it has already been getting. Pros: Great portions, Inexpensive, Variety more

Not impressed with service or food 9/3/2002

After reading the ratings we decided to try Gourmet India. We weren't impressed. The saag paneer tasted like month old spinach and the server only gave us one piece of paneer. He wasn't receptive when we politely asked for a more reasonable portion (so he gave us two more pieces...wow) Once we did taste them, they had no flavor and were rubbery. The chicken korma was over-powered with too much cardamom. The chicken tikka masala was decent while the samosas could have been more flavorable. The good items were the naan and the mango lassi. Service was poor, but the atmosphere was good for the ""fast food"" type. This is coming from an Indian, so take my advice and pass this restaurant up...plenty of better restaurants to go to. Prices are reasonable for an Indian restuarant, but this is truly an example of ""you get what you pay for."" Pros: seating available Cons: Poor service, Sub par food quality more
