Great Place to Hang before headin to Shea 8/23/2008

The Cuckoos nest is a great place to go before or after a Mets game. Its easy on and off the LIRR and 7 Train. My wife and I, who live in Quogue (for those of you who dont know is just east of Westhampton Beach, Long Island), go there everytime and the service is fantastic, bartenders are great, especially Joe. If you are a Mets fan he'll REALLY love ya! Anyway the food is great, a wide variety of appetizers, mains and salads. The chicken quesadillas are awesome and they have great burgers and shephards pie! Great variety of tap beers as well. Lots of locals stop in to watch soccer and enjoy the local favorite: Magners irisj cider. You cant go wrong with the nest! more

The Nest Is The Best 6/21/2008

We're new in the neighbourhood. We have been going to the Cuckoo's Nest for the past two months, we love this bar! The food is beyond pub food. It's really cool how they open the front of the pub to the elements! We were there last Sunday and caught the Irish music session. We had never been to one of these before. We found it to be very entertaining. Also on Sunday they had a hostess at the door which I had never encountered in the Nest before. The hostess really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Pros: Service, Food more

Worst service ever 6/12/2008

Last week, my husband and I decided to grab a burger in our neighborhood. We heard that cuckoo's nest is a cozy place to have a casual dinner, so we stopped by on the way home. When we got there, there was only one bartender. We waited a while before he noticed us, and then ordered drinks and food: an appetizer and two burgers. The noticed that the kitchen seemed backed up, and we waited a half an hour for our appetizer, a french onion soup. The soup was pretty bad. We waited another 20 mins for our burgers. The bartender went to the kitchen to check on orders a couple times, but still no food. So when he came to us and said ""they are preparing your food right now,"" I said, ""yes, it?s been a while since we ordered."" Then he suddenly got upset and replied ""sorry, I am not the chef!!!."" My husband and I were so surprised that he got so upset with what I said. His comment made me really uncomfortable, and we began to think if we should cancel the order and leave. Five minutes later, the bartender came back and asked if we still wanted to keep the order, so my husband said ""we are thinking about cancelling it."" Then the bartender told me ""I was going to offer you a free drink since we made you wait for a long time but I didn't, because you never said thank you to me."" I didn't believe what he said, and I was shocked!!! First of all, I didn't ask for free drinks, and second, I thanked him a couple times when he prepared a place setting for us. He said he didn't hear me say ""thank you."" I guess he was upset with my comment and had to make some kind of passive-aggressive retaliation. He went on to call me ?rude?. But I was never rude to him, even while waiting forever for our food. The point is, no matter what?s going on in the kitchen, he faces customers and he could have simply explained what was going on in the kitchen without making snide comments. We have never experienced this kind of service and we would never recommend this restaurant. more

Elegegant Decor, Irish Bar in Woodside 6/8/2006

Once you walk in, it looks like a big dining room in a mansion. I really like the decor and it made it feel like I was having drinks at a mansion. The music is very mixed, Irish, Rock, Hip Hop, Techno, Pop. The drinks are pretty cheap where most pints are $5. The crowd is mixed, mostly Irish. on weekdays, sit back and enjoy watching the New York Mets on their plasmas! The bartender Nick on weekends is real cool and can carry any type of conversation. I enjoy coming here every weekend. Pros: Guiness Draught, Plasma TVs, Decor Cons: Lunch/Dinner Menu more
