Client for 11 years 11/5/2010

I have been a client for 11 years of Dr. Black. Yes, they can be expensive compared to vet offices that are less competent or less educated, but it's because they are EXPERTS, and offer state-of-the art diagnostic equipment and attentive care. You can always find bargain prices for flea medicine of animal vacination clinics, but for vetinarian care, Dr. Black, Dr. Propescu and staff always have the patient's - our beloved pets - health and wellness as their priority. Some clients don't seem to get that when asked to wait that the staff is not in the back hiding from you, but saving or assisting another client's beloved pet. more

Staff and care VERY Good. 11/4/2010

I was new to the area 15 years ago. I went to a local Vet that was close to my house in Montrose. I had my Beagle puppy fixed and and was not happy with the job they did. My neighbor suggested Dr. Black who was further away in La Crescenta on Foothill. I went there and found Dr. Black to be very kind and caring and have been with Dr. Black ever since. His staff and care has been very good to me and my Jazzmin. Jazzmin is now 14 years young and still enjoys her treats when visiting Dr. Black. I will continue to go to Dr. Black. more

The best of care! 6/5/2010

I have been reading the reviews and I am shocked to see negative reviews! I have been taking my pets to Dr. Black for about 5 years now. I have 5 cats and two dogs. Never once in the 5 years have I ever experienced rudeness or lack of compassion for my animals. It has been the opposite. Just yesterday I had to have my cat put to sleep due to illness and the love and kindness for him was overwhelming by the staff and the Doctors. I wouldn't take my pets to any other Vet. Thank you Dr. Black and Staff for the wonderful work you do! T. Collins more

Should've Known Better 5/24/2010

You know how to spot when the owner is posting her own reviews? She specifically mentions Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital by name so that her review shows up to search engines. She also will write Tom or Nancy Black for the same reason. \r Well, Nancy Black of Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital...you were rude and arrogant and I'm sorry I ever took my dog to your vet. I got lousy service and was charged a fortune for it. I should have read these reviews before going. more

waste of time 3/15/2010

the blacks' primary goal is to make the largest profit. money drives the medicine practiced, not compassion for the patients. do your homework before showing up, they only care about your money. you will pay the same amount here that you would at a specialty practice, but you won't receive the added expertise. if you can't pay, they would rather put your dog to sleep for the business of it than refer you somewhere else for an alternative treatment plan. it is sad that such skewed priorities exist in the medical field, but it is a grim reality. more

Crescenta Valley Veterinary are the best of the best! 1/11/2010

We've been to several veterinarians in the past. In our experience, no clinic has ever been as capable, kind and committed to animal care as Crescenta Valley Veterinary. We recently went through a rough situation with one of our kitties, who was diagnosed with PKD. Hands down, Dr. Black and his team are an exceptional group of professionals. I'm sorry for the other reviewers who reported less than pleasant experiences, but for us, Crescenta Valley Veterinary has gone beyond the call of duty countless times. We enjoy peace of mind in knowing we're providing the best possible care for our babies. more

Rude and arrogant 11/18/2008

This place is a huge joke, all at the clients expense, literally. They do not give a damn how long you wait. The receptionist gives medical advise while Dr. Black hides in the back. They neglected to take my dogs weight, a basic for any ill animal, not noticing she had a tremendous weight loss, indicating disease. When you try to confront them on errors, that's when the ego of the place kicks in. They try to be pleasant by offering water but it reflects in your bill which always vacillates between $200-$500 per visit. Medications are literally TWICE as much as any other clinic in the area.My experience is that is all about the money. more

Your pet Is NOT their priority!! 11/7/2008

Took my dog there two times. My dog was perfectly fine the second time I took him there for a second round of vaccines. They gave my dog an overdose and then wanted to charge me again to fix the problem, that they created!!! Please do not take your pet there. Their priority is the almighty dollar, not your pet! more

Wonderful 10/8/2008

We have been taking our beloved kids, (our pets!) to Dr. Black and staff for the last 6 years. Now that we have finally found this state of the art hospital and competent caring staff we have no need to go elsewhere. Every visit you are treated with compassion whether it is for a routine check or a serious problem. Dr. Black gives you that old fashioned "feel" and treats your pets as if they were his own. They give you every possible treatment option and try to work with you and your pets individual needs. The office is always friendly and competent and more than meet expectations. Some may consider the prices higher than other neighborhood vets but we feel for the standard of care and having the most moderrn equipment ensures that we are getting top notch care. We wouldn't short change our pets care by going to a substandard practice. It's really like family in there as his wife Nancy isthe terrific office manager and you will find their own pets keeping the staff company!\r Highly more

Wonderful!! 10/2/2008

Everyone at Crescenta Valley is great! I've been there in good/healthy times and bad with my pets, and have always been shown care and support. They treat me and my pets like family, and I may leave a little poorer financially, but my cats and dogs are well cared for and healthier. \r \r I have seen all three vets, and I don't have a favorite--take whoever is available and you'll be pleased. They've all helped my dogs through some health scares over the last year or two, and are all amazing. The front office girls are pleasant and efficient, and the technicians/assistants knowledgeable and skilled. \r \r I've met many vets over the years that rush you in and out... this office can be busy, but they don't miss anything. And they've worked to fit me in when I'm pinched for time, and made room for my emergencies (even when only I thought it was an emergency). I would recommend them to anyone/everyone, and I do all the time!! more

Not great 9/29/2008

I wasn't all that impressed with this place. I had taken my dogs here a handful of times and got ok service. I did always feel a little rushed and not taken all that seriously. I'm sure the doctors there are fine but it's the attitude that was the turn off. I've read a bunch of the reviews about this place recently and it seems I'm not the only one. So I've found a new vet and am much happier now. Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital isn't the only accredited hospital in the area, as they would like you believe. Just go to healthypet.com and you can search for them - there's lots of them all over the place. more

This is a quality, caring veterinary practice 9/4/2008

This is a well-run, quality veterinary practice that is staffed by experienced and caring people, like Tom and Nancy Black. I have been going to Tom Black for 15 years with my 10 animals and have always received top quality care. This is an accredited hospital, which means that the facility had to meet very rigorous standards of care and diagnosis. Check around -- there are NOT many vet hospitals that are as up-to-date and well run as Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital. I have recommended this to many of my friends without hesitation. more

Ms. 6/30/2008

I heard only the best from family members who brought their animals here, however, I felt that I paid a lot of money and didn't get the services which the vet said my animal needed in order to be put under for anesthesia. Also, Dr. Black didn't even have the courtesy to speak to me after my animal had surgery to tell me how it went. I just got a pre-printed sheet that had things checked off. I would not go back. more

The very best! 6/21/2008

The doctors at Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital are the most caring and professionally qualified veterinarians that I have ever met, having had 4 dogs over a 40-year period of time. They are dedicated to the well being of their patients and their "parents", as well. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone in the area. Dr. Thomas Black and the doctors, staff, and office manager rank at the absolute top of the list when choosing an excellent veterinary hospital for your pet. more

Bad service 6/4/2008

This place seems to think it's the greatest clinic in the world. It's terribly expensive and for no apparent reason, except to fund the owners trips to Tahoe that they're constantly bragging about. I've only been to this vet twice and both times, the owner wouldn't stop talking about their trips to Tahoe! That seemed really unprofessional, considering how much I was shelling out for my pet's care. They seemed more interested in their vacations than my dogs. Both times, I felt I was waiting a very long time. I was made to wait over half an hour even though I was right on time for my appointments. I found a different vet up the street that was much nicer and less expensive so I'm going there from now on. more
