Crate and Barrel feels like it belongs in New York City. It has a decidedly urban style, with minimalist furnishings, stylish housewares, and eclectic decorations. They appeal to the type of people who eat small portions of sushi for dinner and like to display their meals well. They also appeal to the "Friends" type of people, except they are more sophisticated than Pottery Barn. I love their merchandise because it is not too pricey, and still looks great. I am always tempted to buy their little tchotckes, like soup spoons or sauce bowls. It is definitely better quality than IKEA. (though it is more expensive) This store is big, too. It has two levels. The first level showcases housewares. The second showcases furniture. I have found the staff on both levels to be friendly and un-pushy.
I appreciate how this store is not in the mall, as that makes it easier to buy things. Actually, Crate and Barrel is located across the parking lot from Nordstrom and is near Maggiano's Little Italy.
