Step Right Up
On a back wall of the Cowboy Museum there hangs an Annie Oakley poster. It can't be real, but it is a reminder of one of the oft forgotten elements of the Old West: showmanship. The family-run Cowboy Museum has that by the boot-load.
Behind the Doors
The metal horse outside (photo with Trigger $5) and jewelry and blankets for sale immediately inside give ample warning. For maximum enjoyment, pay admission and walk beyond the swinging doors with suitably low expectations.
The Appeal
In the midst of more sophisticated attractions, such as the nearby Alamo, the Cowboy Museum is downright whimsical. The total display looks like someone's private collection. It will appeal most to those who share a similar, uncritical love of Old West mythology and minutiae. Want to see old photos of Texas Rangers, and items that might have been emptied from said-Rangers pockets (Wells Fargo bank notes, a harmonica)? This is the place.
