I Can't (and I won't) Live Without Great Coffee 2/26/2010

There are many things in my life that I don?t want to live without but there are very few of those things that I use on a daily basis. One of these daily things that I absolutely do not want to live without is a great cup of coffee. And for that, we?re fortunate enough here in Atlanta to have ready access to one of the nation?s top coffee roasters: Counter Culture Coffee. Now maybe I?m a bit of a homer in that Counter Culture is in my hometown of Durham, NC and I?ve been able to watch them grow through the years, but trust me people, these guys are legit coffee roasters. So legit that they are the coffee of choice at top Atlanta coffee shop Octane. And lucky for you and me, Octane sells the beans to go. Now, I?m no expert in coffee roasting techniques, so as much as I?d like to give you the lowdown on how and why Counter Culture?s roasting process is better than everyone else?s out there, the fact is I can?t. I just know a good cup of coffee when I have one and Counter Culture is some of the best stuff I?ve had. The first sip in the morning always brings a smile to my face. So much so that I?ve been known to tweet about much I love Counter Culture & how much I?m enjoying my cup of coffee. I got it bad people. One thing I really like is that Counter Culture puts detailed tasting notes on each bag of beans so you can get an idea of what the coffee will taste like and thus pick the roast that works best for your personal preferences. Some of my favorites are the Columbian, the Ndaroini from Kenya and what I?m drinkin now, the Valle del Santuario from Peru. Counter Culture is committed to coffee sustainability; they work directly with the coffee farmers and growers and truly scour the globe to find the best beans on earth. They then take those beans back to Durham and roast them to utter perfection for coffee enthusiasts like you and me to enjoy. So hit up Octane, grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy (or get work done if you must) and be sure to pick up a bag of beans to go so that you can enjoy this delicious black tonic at home anytime you please. I?m telling ya, ditch that store bought crud you?re drinking now, get you some Counter Culture beans and see what true coffee is supposed to taste like. Counter Culture beans are also available at Park Grounds over in Cabbagetown/Reynoldstown, but I?ve found that their stock is neither as plentiful nor as consistent as it is over at Octane. Pros: the best damn coffee available in the ATL Cons: It aint cheap more
