Cottonwood is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1972 to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Cottonwood's support services assist individuals in the coordination of services that they receive from Cottonwood, the medical community and other social services. Cottonwood offers living options customized for individuals to meet their needs and maximize their independence. Its services range from 24-hour support, support only in the evenings, to weekly staff visits. These services can be accomplished in a home owned by Cottonwood, an apartment or house owned or rented by an individual. Its work services department offers individuals various employment options and a wide variety of job contracts with community businesses. Its work enrichment program offers individuals with severe disabilities the opportunity for employment and community partnerships. Retirement services are offered to older adults who no longer want or need full-time, work-oriented services. Cottonwood is located in Lawrence, Kan.
