Cottage By The Bay

I would NEVER recommend the Cottage by the Bay. The gazebo needed a good coat of paint & the bushes needed to be thinned out. When we arrived with our grandaughters wedding gown, the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks!! The changing room was no more than a closet with little room for her beautiful gown. The fake flowers in the windowboxes would have looked better if they were full of flowers - not half full. We had many complaints from our guests about the warm beer, unpleasant waitresses with no personality and the horrible tubs used to clear the tables rather than trays. more

Having been a staff member many different events at this facility, I felt I need to comment on the last review of and ""attendee"" who claims its ""not worth it"". \r \r The Events here are prearranged by the person hosting the party. There is not a ""planner"" that is provided, that is at the descretion of the host.\r There are no ""cocktail"" waitresses at cottage by the bay...so I suspect a spilled drink was soley by a patron that was deliver a drink to a fellow party goer.\r \r As far as an ""incident with a pregnant woman and baby""- again...this is a buffet style...there is not a ""table service at most events..so again I believe this may be fabricated. In all of my years at this facility...there has never been such an incident.\r \r The number of bartenders is soley dependent on the hosts descretion. One is provided and and included. sometimes, hosts choose to not provide a second bartender to ""slow down"" the consumption of alcohol.\r \r It sounds to my like this reviewer has other issues...I'm also curious as to how they are able to determine pricing as there is no charge for a guest. It is soley a function facility not a restaurant. \r \r Unfortunately, anyone can write whatever they like on the internet. This sounds like someone who tried to bring there own drinks into a licensed facility and was told they could not do that\r Do take the time to talk to the folks at this hidden jewel of facility, it would be a shame to miss out on such a great place.\r more

My friend had her wedding there 4 years ago, so when I got married it was one of the places that I went to check out. The prices were much more affordable then the other venues that I checked out and based on my experience at my friends wedding I decided to have my wedding there. I am so glad I did. The ceremony was so beautiful up at the gazebo and it is included in the facility charge and the reception was so much fun. The DJ that was recommended did a great job and the food was so good. It felt so comfortable and my guest couldn't stop raving about the good time they had. There was a bit of a line at the bar but I could have had a second bartender at an additional cost ( one is included) but that was my choice and noone seemed to care, we were having too much fun The staff was very helpful...so glad I had my wedding there..thank you cottage by the bay Pros: Beautiful wedding without breaking the bank more

We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and this place is actually very nice and they do a nice job with the set up. I would however not recommend it if you are expecting to do deal with good business people. I found the owners to be overly punitive (for example: 1) They withheld a $100 down payment from my in-laws because one of the groomsmen unknowingly brought a six pack of beer with him, the in-laws had no idea this went on until they lost their deposit and 2) They also took away an open beer from my dad because he ordered it a few minutes after the open bar ceased and they made him go to the parking lot to get his wallet to pay for a $4 beer....FYI, I put down for over $1,500 of open bar, apparently they can't spot my dad one $4 beer). I found this lack of business sense on their part to be rather unsettling and really unpleasant to deal with. Overall, the place is nice but if you are expecting to have a rather stress-free wedding I would not recommend this place. We looked at alot of venues in New England before booking Cottage by the Bay for our event. Not only was the place adorable but the price was amazing! Country setting, home cooked meal and so clean. I was amazed since our wedding was only two hours after another event on a Saturday ... the hardwood floors sparkled. The bathrooms were so clean and the room was perfect. We were told that we could use the closet to change but they recommended getting ready and coming prepared, which we did. We went from the limo to the gazebo and it was perfect, the flowers surrounded it were full and blooming... not a plastic pre-fab gazebo. We have alot of big drinkers and did hire an extra bartender..... cold beer , generous drinks and the food was excellent! Love the salads being served to the table, even when I purchased a buffet... nice touch. One thing I would say is read your contract to understand policy's we did and had no surprizes. My guest still compliment us on what a great party we had and we will recommend cottage by the bay to anyone that wants a fantastic party without the price tag. Pros: Staff--- Food more

I recently attended a wedding here, and this place disappointed me tremendously.\r There was seemingly no one in charge of the event, and they were grossly understaffed.\r The few staff that they had on hand were not helpful at all, and were very unprofessional.\r Alcohlic drinks were spilled and on a pregnant woman and her infant, as well as dishes broken at that same table.\r They did not replace drinks or the woman's plate. \r There was one bartender on duty for almost 200 people, so some people waited in the drink line for over an hour.\r The only available restroom for women was located in a main hallway and only had two toilets, both of which overflowed during the wedding I was at.\r The food was average at best and extremely overpriced. Powdered mashed potatoes were served from a tiny scooper and there was no butter or gravy offered for them. 'Vegetables' consisted of 3 baby carrots and one piece of broccoli.\r If you are considering having a function here, please take my advice and don't bother!!
