i swear there are so many thrift and second-hand shops in Lakewood. maybe a thousand of them. this one is nice enough but doesn't set itself apart from the others, it has refurnished furniture which is cute, and other kitsch from the fifties, but you can get that anywhere and cheaper. the place is very VERY small and doesn't change its product as often as the rotating window display suggests. i used to go in about once a month but it always looked the same. Pros: the owner is very nice Cons: there's nothing to buy more

    Robin Sweeney's Cosmic Collections is delightfully different from the deco-only designs found in typical antique stores. Her small corner shop is stocked with fun, colorful bits and pieces from the '40s, '50s and '60s, a place where one can find a set of Hawaiian cocktail glasses right next to a mint-condition Westinghouse fan. With the antique shop and the Pottery Barn seemingly morphing into one tight nostalgic concept, the vintage variety of this tiny Lakewood lounge makes every square foot worthwhile.

    The Skinny
    In addition to its quirky qualities, what makes this boutique of retro furniture and accessories so appealing is that its entire stock is either in very good condition or has been lovingly rehabbed. Mismatched mustard-colored chairs, for example, may find new life as white dinette seats for a yellow Formica table. While Sweeney says she likes to keep her eyes open for "vintage chrome sets, vinyl sectionals and cottage-style furniture," everything from bamboo to leather is fair game.
