The Cornell Team Worked Wonders 8/18/2011

As you may or may not know, the Just Off Broadway Theatre is poised to reopen this September in midtown on the south end of Penn Valley Park - actually ""just off"" off Central. The new building is truly beautiful - inside and out and will continue to be a catalyst for myriad live, local, theatre in our hometown. One construction aspect that is often forgotten in these types of building renewal projects is the protective rooftop that covers our heads. In the case of Just Off Broadway Theatre, said covering was provided by Mary McNamara and her excellent team at Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal. The new rooftop - part of the significant theatre expansion project undertaken by the Kansas City Parks and Rec. Department ? was quite necessary but, as rooftops go, a generally not-so-glamorous building feature. As a rule, I would put rooftops into the important yet amorphous building categories that earn precious little attention: a bit like plumbing and electrical. Let's face it, when your building lid is sound and not leak prone, it is likely one of the last things on your theatre radar. That is, until there is a problem. That?s where Cornell Roofing comes in. With Cornell, there will not be problems. They have over 80 years in the business. And quite frankly, the theatre job has been superb. It was completed on time and under budget; and even with the torrential downpours of KC this past July, not a drop of moisture gravitated its way into the new performance structure. In short, the roof is the last thing the busy new tenants have had to consider. As a small yet meaningful FYI, an insider also mentioned to me that the Cornell team did the work at a savings to the overall project. Good to know ? and just another fact that we patrons may take for granted as we enjoy the more eye-catching benefits of our sparkling new community theater (blissfully sans intrusive moisture and nature?s other pesky outdoor elements). So, in a word, ?thanks? to Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal. We may not need think of you often (gratefully), but still, a hat tip to you. You?re a good company, with good people - and as honest and full of integrity as the day is long. Cheers. more
