Located on 5th street in Coralville, nestled in small wooded area, this School house literally peeks the interest of all who see her. though parking is in a somewhat small area, those wishing to see the museum can usually find a convenient place to park which they enjoy the schoolhouse.
Built in 1876, it has been decorated to show what a schoolhouse might have looked around the years of 1877-1882. The schoolhouse is planning on opening the upstairs in Spring of 2006 to reflect a classroom in the 1940's.
Many groups of children have visited this museum as a part of their "Iowa History" units and those who have spent time there are often time overheard planning to re-visit with family.
Admission is free, and though it is only open from 1pm-5pm Wednesday and Saturday and from 1pm -4pm on Sunday it is a wonderful place to visit despite the restricted open times. I should also mention that during the summer hours the schoolhouse offers many day camps for the younger age child. Filled with fun and learning they further emphasize how life was almost 125 years ago.
