A mix of meadows, streams, marsh, pond and woods draw over 60 bird species to Cook's Canyon. Among its easy trails, the main trail parallels Galloway Brook, which flows below high rock ledges before it is dammed farther on to form Canyon Pond.
The forest is a mix of hemlock, red pine, oak, maple and birch that changes into marsh and wooded swamp. You're likely to spot eastern wood pewees, scarlet tanagers and ovenbirds in the woodlands; also look for wood ducks, indigo buntings, bobolinks and various warblers during nesting season.
