I love to spoil my pets. My I'm looking for a present for either my dog or cat I like coming here. They have such a large supply. Most stores may have an aisle devoted to pets but this place is an entire store for pets. You cannot beat the selection inside. I always find some great items more

Companions Pet shop has a monoploy on the market since their nearest competition is probably the Petco up in Cleveland Park. As you can guess, they're in a smaller space so it's pretty crowded, but it's a good place to pick up "apartment" pets -- by which I mean birds, fish, and hamsters. The fish selection is probably the most noteworthy since the largest amount of space in the store is devoted to that section. The prices seem reasonable, but then again I couldn't tell you the going market rate for a guppy. more

Basic Supplies 8/15/2005

If you live in the city and are looking for a place with your basic and average pet care supplies, this is the place for you. However, being the owner of a more exotic type of animal, this store wasn't necessarily the place for me. In searching for some more specialized care accessories, only the larger, national chains will do for me. From an aesthetic point of view, the store is pretty dark, and the animal smell (as expected) is plenty strong, but if you live in the U Street area, the location and reasonable prices are impossible to beat. Plus, if you're a fish person their 48-hour guarantee will make sure that a sick fish doesn't hit your wallet too hard. more

The companion pet shop - in the heart of the U street district - will fulfill all of your pet store needs and then some. WIth a large assortment of fish, rabbits, snakes, lizards and even a kitten or puppy, the store has its fair share of animals for purchase - WHICH ARE ALL LOCALLY RAISED ANIMALS. They also have a large selection of pet accessories, food, shampoos, and just about anything you and / or you pet would need. AND TOYS GALORE. The owners are nice, and the prices are fair - If you are in the shaw / dupont area - it is just about the best thing going - from a pet perspective. more
