Magnifique!! :) 8/31/2006

They have helpful personnel and amazing pieces of art. The photograph wall is one of the best exhibits, but then again, so is the atrium with the glass sculpture. They have a wonderful art program for elementary schoolers that encourages children to dream and to imagine. PROS: Beautiful, calm, serene. Great location. Across from magnificent church. CONS: Downtown. A bit far. more

good place 12/5/2005

if you are fond of art then probably you should not miss this place . And the best time to visit this is afternoon . You can peacefully watch the exibits and enjoy the artists creation. They have travelling exhibits also which gives you an oppurtunity to have a look at famous peoples work. A great place more

peaceful, enjoyable 12/5/2005

The Columbus Museum of Art was actually better than I thought it would be. I'm not a big fan of art museums, since i've been to many and most were pretty dull. The Columbus Museum of art is actually pretty interesting. Their displays are not static, but showcases change often. Definitely a place to visit over and over again! more

Nice, small museum 11/30/2005

This is a nice small museum with many well-known permanent works. The best time to go is when there is a traveling exhibit so you can see the permanent and traveling works. Nice place to spend a couple hours. more

Accesible Art 11/18/2005

The Columbus Museum of Art really works hard at getting new art in town. The Renoir exhibit right now is very popular and shows that Columbus can be world-class. Even my kids love it! more

Nice art museum 11/15/2005

This is a great place to go and spend an afternoon looking at beautiful artwork. All the gallery docents and people who work there have always been very nice to me every time I visited there. They switch the art on display frequently and often have travelling exibits of more famous artists. A very relaxing, calm place to be. more

if you find yourself with nothing to do on a sunday afternoon 11/14/2005

I suggest you take a trip to the Columbus Museum of Art. Admission is free on Sunday (but of course you can always donate a dollar or two to show your support). Definitely try to catch the docent-led tour at 2pm. I find it is much more interesting and impactful to learn the history behind the pieces. The museum has a great permanant collection as well as many wonderful travelling exhibitions. Check their website for the latest info. more

Awesome Museum 11/8/2005

This museum is so neat and each month they throw a party on the first thursday of the month called appropriately First Thursday. It's a great place for singles to go. They get a band and have cocktails. It's a fun time. It's also a nice place to go when they aren't throwing a party. Excellent exhibits. more

Nice museum with a lot of great exhibits 9/2/2005

I have been to the Columbus Museum of Art several times, and each time we visit, we see a wonderful special exhibit. They have an impressive number of works by well-known artists (I would have thought a small time town like Columbus would not). The admission prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff is always very helpful. more

Very inspiring 6/1/2005

Also fascinating pieces of art. This is an nice little trip to make in an afternoon to just go, clear your mind and look at art. They do rotate exhibits, I do not know how often, but they'll usually have something different within every few months or so. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The Columbus Museum of Art was founded in 1878. It occupied several gallery spaces around town before settling into its own building in 1931.

    The Collection
A broad range of artists and styles are included in the museum's permanent collection, including multiple impressionist, German expressionist, cubist, contemporary and American modernist works. The outdoor Russell Page Sculpture Garden is also a highlight. Traveling and special exhibitions are frequent events and they can range from historic to wild and contemporary. Past visitors include: "Chihuly Over Venice," featuring the glasswork of artist Dale Chihuly; "Illusions of Eden: Visions of the American Heartland," an exhibit co-curated by the museum that went on to travel the world; and "Elvis and Marilyn," which included simple and bizarre artistic interpretations of the two icons.
