I recently proposed to my girlfriend and when I called the hotel not only were they thrilled to order flowers in advance if I wished, they also arranged a private tour of the bell...

This hotel has withstood the test of time. It's grounds are fabulous, and the views are to die for. However, as far as romantic goes, not recommended. The room was clean but the b...

Wonderfully Magical 8/27/2002

This place is so romantic without dinner, adding that to your stay at this historic inn makes it that much more special. Get a window that over looks the Columbia Gorge and if you go during off season, chances of you having a quiet candle lit table to yourself is quite high. The food is fabulous, try any of their steaks... The crab cakes are the largest I've seen and not only have crab, but almost lobster in them. And whatever you do, save room for the 2 serving Apple Tart. It's very pricey, but worth every penny of it... more

Will Come Back Again! 8/8/2002

This is the most romantic hotel we've ever been to. Celebrated our honeymoon and have been back on numerous occasions as it's our favorite. The breakfast is totally outrageous and you won't have to eat the rest of the day. Tony in the lounge fanastic. We only had dinner in the dining once and it was quite good. Pros: Romantic, Great view, Professional Cons: somewhat expensive more

Classic romance 7/31/2002

Look no further if you're trying to figure out where to spend a romantic evening. No TVs to distract you. Lots of room to walk around outside and enjoy the beautiful views of the Gorge. They have their own waterfall! Breakfast is quite an event (MANY courses) and quite wonderful. We enjoyed our dinner there as well. Highly recommend the experience. If I wasn't already married, I would definitely consider this place for a wedding! Pros: Location - VIEWS!!!, Romantic, Food Cons: Expensive more

A Gorgeous place! 7/26/2002

Great rooms, fantastic view of the Columbia River Gorge, sumptuous food. The best breakfast I ever had. more

Worth the drive 7/22/2002

This is one of the best hotels in Oregon. It is quiet, sophisticated but not too stuffy. The grounds are amazing and the farm breakfast is to die. We wanted to stay another night just so we could have another breakfast! more

go back in time 7/18/2002

A romantic place to go back in time and enjoy the excellent service, romantic rooms & views, great food more

An awesome getaway or day trip 5/15/2002

This is a fantastic weekend getaway from Portland. The rooms are both cozy and luxurious (definitely pay extra for the view). Stay over on a Saturday--the Sunday brunch is the best. It's a good option for a day trip, too, particularly in nice weather. You can pay a day fee for access to the pool and spa. Pros: brunch, spa, view Cons: price more

  • The Scene
Built in 1921, the picturesque Columbia Gorge Hotel is perched high on a cliff, treating guests to panoramic gorge views. This hotel even has its own waterfall, which plummets some 208 feet in spectacular style. Lush, green, manicured grounds--combined with the views--make this a popular place for romantic getaways and weddings.

    The Details
Frilly, canopied beds, floral wallpaper and polished antiques make staying in guest rooms here feel like a night at an English grandmother's house. Rooms are cozy and a bit pricey, but they do include a five-course breakfast, so make sure you have an appetite. A room with a view is worth the splurge; add a fireplace, and the rates go up. Other amenities include cable TV, laundry service and spa services, like mineral wraps and massages.
