When my gas furnace failed in March a few years ago, Bay State sent me an urgent message, saying that they had to replace my meter to update it. Then they billed me for continuing gas usage, with a falsified ""reading"", even though I was using no gas! On the bill the reading was marked ""true"" rather than ""estimated"", a lie!
I checked the meter myself and it hadn't changed for a couple of months! I was making do with electric heat at the time. I told them their numbers were wrong and made them rebill for zero usage, which they finally did. Then they told me my meter was new enough that it did not need replacement after all!
They evidently thought their own meter had failed, but were billing me for an imaginary use of gas in an effort to avoid loss of revenue!
Now it is time to replace that meter, after seven years, and I spent more than a half hour on the phone trying to get through to schedule it. Was on hold but got disconnected once. Bay State has a web site, but it is down.
Poor behavior and poor service.
