I helped a friend adopt a dog from the shelter. He was located at Petsmart on Wadsworth through the humane society. The fee is suppose to include spay/neuter fees. When we decided to get him he was very matted. Petsmart said he was neutered and they could not clip him due to his stitches. We didn't see any but thought well they have a date neutered so surely he was. She took him to the vet at Petsmart and he indeed was never neutered. She called the clinic at the Humane Society who told her she would have to wait over a month to neuter him. She works in child care and could not have him acting boyish with the children so she had to take him to an outside source and pay the extra to have him neutered right away. When she called to say if they could not get him in sooner she would have to bring him back they did not show her any compassion. They just said bring him back. How frustrating! We are trying to adopt and take care of these animals and they are supposedly standing for spay and neuter programs to help control pet overpopulation but they don't always follow through. Noone looked at this dog with any interest because he was so matted. So she has him groomed, begins to bond, etc and they make no effort to right this huge mistake. Not good. They had many dogs they knew nothing about and a whole bunch isolated for kennel cough. I realize they are probably short staffed but they should work with customers a little more to resolve these issues in my opinion.
Pros: lots of great dogs, work with petsmart to adopt more out
Cons: staff do not know about the animals, can't give appropriate info, dogs not always sterilized as is included in fee and wait time to have done can be long.
