So I found myself in need of a plumber and decided to do what I always do: Call around and have three different companies come down to look at the service required and give me an estimate for repair including labor and parts at no charge. It's pretty standard service for reputable businesses ...but not for College Air. Which is fine. I gave them a call and they told me what they thought the repair would cost and I asked them to send a technician to come down and inspect the repair site to give me a written estimate. You know...because otherwise when they come to make the repair there suddenly are magical complications and add-on fees to inflate the cost of the repair, which has happened to me quite a few times. Which is fine. I just don't plan on ever getting repair work done before being given a written estimate after a technician actually looks at the job. Which is what I tell college air on the phone when they tell me they won't send a technician to look at the job, and then I respectfully tell them I'm have to look for someone else. At this point they tell me they have my address and threaten to alert authorities for not using a licensed technician.. Come on College Air...are you really throwing a hissy fit and trying to get me to use your service through tough guy threats? Apparently they are. Sad thing is, i doubt you could actually find a decent honest contractor in nyc so this might be the best you could hope for.
