But if this review can save someone the frustration of going through what I’ve gone through with Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell in Cary, IL then this will have been well worth it.
I guess I should clarify this – This review is more specifically a reflection of the one person (Paulette Pelletier) with whom I’ve had to deal with who is an agent for them and not necessarily the entire Cary Branch of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell.
However, I myself own a couple of business and believe that if one of my employees is disrespectful or conduct business in an unethical way it is a reflection upon me and my entire company.
With that said, I will try and make a long story short.
I was interested in purchasing a property that Paulette Pelletier was the listing agent for.
Neither I nor my agent has ever been a part of a more unprofessional real-estate transaction
Just to give you some of the highlights of this very frustrating experience…
I made an offer on a house that she was the listing agent for. My agent tried to contact her via Cell phone, office phone, text message and Voicemails. The only way this agent communicated was via very short emails.
So from the get-go this process was getting off to kind of a strange start but somehow after a few very frustrating days trying to communicate with this agent we came to an agreement and got a signed contract between both parties (seller and Myself as the buyer)
This is where things become even worse. 3 days after we signed the contract I am meeting the home inspector at the property when My agent calls me and tells me the sellers have cancelled the contract.
My agent tries to uncover what is going on and cannot get an answer out of Paulette. She actually hangs up on him after saying something like you will get a letter from the attorney… Click
No communication skills at all.
I do want to let you know that the sellers had the right to cancel the contract because there is a 5 day attorney review period – so they were within their legal right to do so. However, legal right and just plain respect and business ethics are two different things.
So what happened with the deal? Here is my opinion…
During the time that we were under contract the seller received another offer on the house. Ethically I don’t think you should be entertaining other offers while you are under contract with someone else. However from a homeowner standpoint I totally understand wanting to get the most money out of your property that you can.
I would not even be writing this review if things were just handled even slightly different and this agent would have been more ethical and respectful.
Even though I believe you shouldn’t be entertaining other offers when a contract is signed by both parties I could of understood and respected if this agent would have said something like…
Hey, we just received another offer on this house…. And we are still within the 5 day attorney review period…. I’m sure you can understand that the seller would like to get the most for their house, so I’m asking you guys to submit your best and final offer and we will go with the best one.
Honestly, if she would of handled the situation something like that… I wouldn’t have liked it because again you are already under contract and I don’t think its right to accept other offers… however, I would have respected it and understood it. Because at the end of the day the seller wants to get the most for their valued property – I get that.
If any part of that would have happened I would have been bummed the deal didn’t work out but I wouldn’t be here writing this to you.
