I lived on the North Shore of Nassau County till 1999 before relocating to California, and ultimately, as of October of this year, "rerelocating" back to the area. This has been a family favorite since I was a young kid. Colbeh is a Persian restaurant which is also Kosher. It caters to the large Great Neck Persian clientele and has some very good food. Please note, due to kosher restrictions, the restaurant is closed from Friday Sundown to Saturday Sundown. My favorite appetizers are the Gundhi (ground chickpea meatballs is the best way to describe this) and the Tadhig. The Tadhig is covered with Red Lentil Stew or Green Stew. Tadhig is the crust of the rice that results after Persian style rice is made (due to the oil used in the cooking process). This crunchy crust is very satisfying, but don't count the calories. For the main dish I always love the Kebab Sultani which is a combination of meat Kebabs (Barg - cubed beef and a ground meat) served with a nice bed of white Basmati rice and some tomatos and onions. I always like to finish the meal with Persian tea and some sweet fried honey deserts.
I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is not looking to eat healthy but wants to try true authentic Persian/Jewish food.
