The Coffee House Cafe is a big, airy space on the busiest street in downtown Salem, and is perhaps the major hub of the city's music and arts scene. It's not a place to sit down and read the morning paper, perhaps, but the edgy atmosphere makes it a primo mid-afternoon/evening people-watching hotspot. Try not to let the redundant name fool you-- There's more than just coffee. It features the token grab-bag of local pastries and cakes, with even a few vegan options mixed in. Drink options include the standard cafe fare and a few surprises (cold-brewed coffee, anyone?) to keep things interesting.
