Great theater. 12/16/2005

This place is very conveniently located in Coconut Grove, it is within the walking distance from the Cocowalk. i would recommend to have the season tickets, because you can go to those great shows at a better prices. They bring very great actors and actresses and the shows are usually spectacular. If you enjoy theater you should consider seeing some shows in this playhouse. However, audience seating structure is not the best one. more

Good Theatre, Bad Seating 8/27/2005

Coconut Grove Playhouse does some great work. They typically choose a diverse season and often bring in well-known actors, directors and designers. Coconut Grove Playhouse is one of the top professional theatres in the country and is a great benefit to the community. It is centrally located in the community of Coconut Grove -- within walking distance of Coco Walk which has great shopping and good pre and post theatre restaurants. The major downside is the seating -- the slant to the seating is very small and the audience area is very wide. It is therefore difficult to get a great view of the stage without having to lean to see around the person sitting in front of you. more

Great Theater 8/4/2005

This theater attracts many known names in the entertainment business. You may see Kathlyn Turner, Dixie Carter, Hal Holbrook, and many others. The season starts in Sept. with Hal Linden in "Tuesdays With Morrie." They do a lot of prize-winning shows and try to alter them among drama, comedy and musicals. Prices are moderate and they have season tickets. If it was not for the less than perfect seating, I would have given this theater 5 stars. Some of the seats I have had in the past had had obstucted views or I could not see over the heads of the person in front of me. (Hint: Do not sit in the mezzanine's first row. You will not be able to see the feet of the actors due to the bar in front. ) The theater has two showrooms; the big one for larger productions and a smaller one for more intimate shows. I have been in both many times and they are 2 different theater experiences. more

  • In Short
In 1956, the rococo building was transformed into a 1,100-seat theatrical stage, and is now under the ownership of the state of Florida. So it's probably not surprising that...
