Coastal Kids - Steven Abelowitz, MD

Dr. Abelowitz has been great to work with. As a new mom, I come in with a list of questions and Dr. Abelowitz takes the time to answer every one of them and puts me at ease as you explains his answers to me. I opted to spread out my son's vaccinations and Dr. Abelowitz was supportive with my decision and we agreed on an alternative schedule I am very pleased with. I am very happy with our decision to have Dr. Abelowitz at Coastal Kids to be our provider to our little one. more

We have been going to Coastal Kids and Dr. Abelowitz since we had our son in 2009. Dr. Abelowitz has always been very thorough, attentive and engaging and he makes both us and our son feel comfortable and addresses any concerns we have. We have also had great experiences with the other exceptional doctors in this practice. My husband and I did countless research on vacciniations and the various schedules available. We were not comfortable doing the standard vaccination schedule and requested a modified schedule. Dr. Abelowitz patiently listened to our concerns and opinions, discussed the pros and cons of the modified schedule and partnered up with us to ensure that we created a schedule that we felt comfortable with. He was never once pushy or demanding and we were/are incredibly pleased with this partnership. We recently had our second child and have already discussed with Dr. Abelowitz our desire to apply this same modified schedule with our younger son. Overall, as a parent you want to do what is best for your child and you will be your child's biggest advocate. I understand the need to be cautious in vaccinations and Dr. Abelowitz has been very accomodating with this request. Their practice does encourage vaccinations not only for the well being of your own child, but also the many young newborns in their office, who are not yet protected through vaccinations. Ultimately, they have always looked after our children's best interest. more

Dr. Abelowitz seems to be another doctor whom has a huge ego and God complex. He seems to have a very good disposition until you ask a question or have the desire to have input on your children’s care. His demeaning and threatening behavior towards my wife and I was both unprofessional and quite frankly very disturbing. My wife and I interviewed Dr. Abelowitz before our twin boys were born. Our largest concern was the vaccine schedule and he reassured us that he would work with our wishes. Every visit Dr. Abelowitz demanded my wife and I get a flu and whooping cough vaccines as well as getting very upset that we did not want to start to vaccinate our twins before 18mo. At the 6mo WELLNESS visit Dr. Abelowitz became so upset, he threatened us and told us we were being unfit parents and he would no longer see our children. Did he ask if I was a micro-biologist with a Doctorate degree from MIT? No! Instead he insisted we had no idea the danger we were putting our children and others at risk… Maybe if he would have spent a few minutes discussing the reason why I am against vaccinating at a very young age, (with scientific evidence) he may have learned a few things. Doctors with this attitude are very dangerous and I would think twice before having Dr. Abelowitz see my children. more

So far I have had great experiences with Dr. Abelowitz. I left my old pediatrician because he got upset with me for calling him when he thought it wasn't an emergency - this is my first child and she was 2 months at the time. Whenever I have a question, I call Dr. Abelowitz's office and I can speak with a nurse to answer my non urgent questions. I don't feel ""stupid"" for asking the questions I do. They understand when my daughter gets a fever for the first time, it's important to me and they give me all the guidance I need - and they have a very friendly tone. The only complaint I have is that they say they will call you back within 6 hours. They DO call back within 6 hours... but I wish it were a little sooner. Other than that, I am very pleased with their services. more
