It's small, it's neighborhoody, and if you haven't been exposed to the constant pressure and political drama behind the scenes, it's a pleasant place to buy food and feel like, even if you're not making a difference, at least you're not doing any harm. CCM is a community-owned store, meaning the place is owned by the people and the profits go back to the community, not some fat-cat up in Washington or wherever they hang out nowadays. Simply Living shares the space, and you can read up on how to be socially responsible if you feel so moved. They have a nice produce section and it's an easy place to find those healthy edibles that are, actually, becoming easier to find. But they're easier to find in those big, glittery, fat cat stores that we all want to avoid.
