This was my first visit to Clemson Eye. I did not feel welcome or valued as a new patient. I was very disappointed and would not recommend them to my friends or family. Dr. Dodgens rushed through my exam and mostly spoke to the technician in the room. I felt I was interrupting her when I had a question. I also had trouble with my eyes for several weeks from the drops that were put in my eyes. Shelly in the optical shop was also unwelcoming. I found some frames but due to a scheduled surgery I told her I would be back to complete the transaction. After the surgery, I came back to place my order. She reviewed the charges covered by my VSP insurance and also explained something about gross amounts and taxes. I was still in pain from surgery and since I knew my benefits and had never paid taxes for vision benefits I didn't really clue in to what she was saying. I left my card information with her and when I returned home called back to get the explanation of charges again. She said even though I had insurance, they take the gross retail amount, multiply that by 7% tax then that amount is multiplied by 65% for the total tax amount. Then, add the total tax to my vision benefit amount. I was shocked. I checked with SC DOR to see if this was legal. I found out Clemson Eye was a dual provider and could do this. When my glasses came in the bifocals were not lined up correctly and blurry on the right but I was told I would get used to it. I called my vision plan, told them about my bad experience and the tax policy. They were also shocked at the tax policy and they reinstated my benefit. I returned the glasses the very next day and asked for a refund. I was told I could not get a full refund because there would be a 25% restocking fee. I had to pay $29.75 for a bad experience and no glasses. I am very disappointed with Clemson Eye. Patients should be made aware immediately about their tax policy before looking at glasses. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
