I have been going to the Clayton Drive Inn now for around 40+ years!!! When I was a kid my folks stopped in there every time we went into or back from Spokane. We lived in Colville and my grandparents lived in Spokane. We mostly stopped for the Ice Cream, but once in a while stopped for the burgers too. As I grew up I have been there many times. Over the years I have done many different things that took me by there and most of the time when going by I stop and get a burger, or ice cream etc… I used to work for the Pony Express company, and my route took me past there every day. I would usually stop in 3 – 4 times a week and get something. I really like the place, and I think most anybody else would too! They used to be across the road next to what was a gas station and is now some sort of shop. The drive inn was in a very small drive-up ONLY building... That is what I remember with fond memories of the place! Going there as a small kid, all the way from when I was only about 4 years old, and before they built the new highway back in the early 60’s. I remember having to drive through the town of Clayton and my dad always complaining about how there was that sharp turn in the middle of town making traffic on the highway have to slow down so much, but we ALWAYS stopped at the drive in anyway! Now believe it or not I am in the process of purchasing a house about 20-blocks from the place! So I KNOW I will be more of a regular there once we get moved! I was there just a few weeks ago when looking at that house and the place is everything I remember. The nostalgic atmosphere in the place also is very nice. I recommend it highly!
