Almost Agreed with Commonsenser 11/25/2010

When I first read this review back in May, 2010, I was in agreement with Commonsenser: But this pass Tuesday (Nov 22, 2010) while waiting on my wife to finish shopping, I heard two young ladies talking in the food court of the mall. Some poor guy was locked down early sunday because she lied to the officer, and said he beat her up and tried to kill her. I'm sure that by now that case is going to state. If she tells what really happen she may be locked down. Now look at the treatment this inmate will get over a lie, just waiting for his day in court, he may get 20 from this kind of system just on a lie! more

First off...the Clayton County Detention Center is not a prison! There is a big difference. And, yes these people may have committed a crime, but, they are still human beings and they still have rights. This country does not torture their inmates! I know one of the inmates in Clayton County and I will tell you, she is an exceptional person, who made a mistake. A lot of the people in there are the same way. They do not deserve to be treated like s**t! I have a few problems with the way they are treated. \r \r \r \r No clean shests, not eonough sheets or blankets, not enough uniforms, no clean uniforms, uniforms that don't fit properly, sleepin on the floor due to over crowdedness, showers leaking into cells and not being cleaned up, so the inmates that are on the floor were sleeping in water...in the winter time! Cold and and under cooked food, that is if it's not spoiled! Suppose to have two hot meals a day, they get cold sandwiches every meal of every day...\r \r Clayton County is inhumane and needs the health dept in there to fix all this or shut it down!! No matter what someone does they do not deserve to be treated this way! Heck, Sadaam Hussein wasn't even treated like this in our prisons! So, commonsenser you need to have a little more compassion for your fellow humans because you may end up in one of these places one day because of a simple mistake you made one time!! more

I am NOT feeling this county, not like I'd ""feel"" any of them, they do serve their purposes but, they are very mean and nasty and treat God's ppl like non-humans I DON'T like it! more

This is an Abusive and Restrictive place. 6/24/2009

6/21/09\r Hello!\r \r I’m an inmate at Clayton County Detention Center. I’ve been here since the beginning of May, 2009, and this by far is the most dehumanizing, demoralizing, abusive place I know. I have never known so many judgmental, uncaring people in my life. This place is so bad, that it is driving me to the point of depression; because I feel like I’m being oppressed. Like I said before, I’ve been here since May, and the A/C has been out for the past three weeks. It gets so hot in this small cell at night that I can hardly breathe. You know it is extremely hot; when you wake up out of your sleep out of breath. I have tried several times complaining to the guards, but that does no good; because they either ignore the emergency bell, and if they do come in they walk right back out and ignore you. It seems as if the A/C is turned up a little during the day, because you can feel it a little. But at the night it’s turned all the way down, because it gets extremely hot to the point where you feel like you are going to suffocate. Beside the fact that it is over heated in this place, there are ants every where. I feel really bad for the one’s who have to sleep on the floor, since I finally got a bad after a couple of weeks on the floor myself. We are locked down 18 hours a day in this hot cell; which has no A/C and no air circulation and when they are short of staff we are locked down pretty much the hold day and all day on Fridays, I thought that Saturday was the only day you stay locked down all day? If any one knows the answer to this question please let me know?\r Le#0356318\r \r 6/22/09\r Today they took up bed sheets in the afternoon, the sheets where then given back to us with our dinner; which again came in a bag. In the process of giving out bed sheets, they rain out of sheets once they got to Housing Unit 6; up top 209-210. Ms. Webster then told us that we would have to wait until next Monday to get our sheets.\r Le#0356318\r \r 6/22/09\r I went to church today along with a few others in hope of finding some type of peace from being in this awful place. When we returned back to our unit, we were told by Officer Martin that because we went to church, we missed out on clean uniforms; so we would have to wait until this Thursday before we could change.\r Le#0356318 \r \r 6/23/09\r A/C Unit not working properly. It is so hot in here that we are stripping down in there cells just to try and stay cool; but then the guards are making us put our uniforms back on. Although we are telling them how hot the rooms are they don’t seem to care; maybe they will care when something tragic happens, I just pray it does not happen to me.\r Le#0356318\r more

In response to the first review! 12/3/2008

It's a prison, so if someone finds it demoralizing, abusive, and oppressive, I definitely give it 2 thumbs up! Way to go Clayton County - keep up the good work. Maybe people will be dissuaded from committing crimes! more

Wretched, hell-forsaken place 11/25/2008

This is the most dehumanizing place that I have ever experienced. I would like to try and do something to change that. I am thinking about trying to get the sheriff's office to allow book donations and to encourage them to distribute them to the jail. I don't feel too hopeful about this, but think that it is worth a try. Cons: Demoralizing, abusive, restrictive to the point of opression more
