My husband and I hadn't been to the movies in awhile. Our last experience was at the AMC theater, and we didn't have the best experience there, so we decided to go to Cinemark this time.
The theater itself is big, and very nice and clean from the moment that you enter it. Also, unlike the AMC theater at Katy Mills, their matinees extend until 6 p.m. One thing that I wasn't impressed with was that they charge $5.25 for a "child's" matinee ticket and the ages on the child's tickets start at one? Fortunately, we did not have my daughter with us. Maybe they do this to discourage people from bringing one year olds to the theater. I certainly wouldn't pay those prices to bring one! The lady in front of us asked for a child's ticket and an adult ticket. The guy at the ticket window charged her for two adult tickets. She didn't notice, but I did. I probably should have spoken up, but I didn't.
When we entered, we were going to visit the concession stand, but the line was pretty long. We looked at the pricing and decided to pass it up anyway. I couldn't justify paying almost $5 for a tub of popcorn! On our way to our theater, we passed a Coke machine that carries the 20 ounce bottles, so we thought we'd just get one of those....until we noticed the price - $3.25!!!
The theater was big and the seats are roomy and comfy, but there was a mildewy smell in our theater that was not very pleasant. It was even less pleasant when the movie stopped halfway through and it took them a few minutes to get it up and running again. Once it was running again, there was a combination screeching/tapping noise in the background that was very distracting.
I'm thinking maybe I'm just not cut out for trips to the theater! Between the sticker shock and everything else, I think I'll just stick to renting the movies when they come out on DVD!
