Tom Cruise jumped up and down on the pool table! 5/28/2006

Well, maybe ol Tom was not as "goofy" back then, but who knows... The infamous Color of Money with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman used this facility for filming. A photo of their smiling faces adorns the hallway of Chris' Billiards. Even someone like me (a really bad player!) enjoys going here to shoot some stick. A lot of tables, reasonable prices, a small snack area with drinks, and lots of colorful people make this a place you should visit at least once. You will enjoy this classic pool hall. more

Break! 3/30/2006

After climbing the lenghty staircase up to this grey and dusty looking poolhall you will see why parts of the film "The Color Of Money" was shot here. It is an older or should I say vintage poolroom that boasts over 40 tables. Usually the back room is closed, so you have aprox. 25 tables to choose from, not bad hey? The hourly rates are low and the tables are regulation and in pretty good shape. Alot of veteran pool players bring in their own cue. You can see them coming in with what looks like a rifle case. No cocktails are served here anymore, only sodas and coffee, they probably had some problems. Check this place out and see for yourself the photos of Paul Newman and Tom Cruise as well as the old & newer photos of professional pool players that line these old walls. more

  • The Scene
    Parts of the film "The Color of Money" were shot at this serious pool hall. Three rooms, separated by doorways, have carpet that is beaten bare. But the billiard tables are full-sized and smooth; their baizes are clean and green; the balls shiny and the cushions firm. There are requisite high stools and long fluorescent lights above each table. The counter sells accoutrements and cues. Quiet and serious regulars and casual players work the tables.

    The Draw
    There's no drinking, no music, no swearing and little socializing; just 50 tables, both pocket and carom. Legends of the game--Cliff Joyner, Marco Marquez, Efrain Reyes, even Cardinal Francis George and more--have broken here. Instruction is available, but soaking in a tableside education in the main room is free. League play and tournaments take place regularly.
