Good food but NOT sanitary!! 4/26/2009

So, my first few times here were pretty good experiences. They have very good fast-food chinese that kept me coming back. I lived downtown, and it was walking distance and very conveniently located on King St. But on my 4 or 5th visit, I actually dined in and that's when it all went downhill. They took me to this little area in the back (I know most of downtown Charleston restaurants are tight-fit but this is only one of the cons) and seated my friend and I. I looked around, and there were 2 other tables occupied. As for the empty tables, they were all dirty. I just didn't understand why they didn't clean up after the customers that had sat there already left. One table...understandable. But this was like 4 or 5 other tables! It was completely gross. Also, they had this tub of ice tea in which they just used a pitcher to scoop it up and serve to us. What happened to drink dispensing? This was like a TUB, it looked like something I put my dirty dishes in!! Before the night was over, I saw 3 critters crawling around. So bottom line, do NOT eat in!! Pros: pretty good food Cons: bad atmosphere, bad hygiene/sanitation more

Excellent food, nice people, convenient location 11/7/2008

I've eaten at Chopsticks about once a week for a couple of years. It is popular with many professionals in the area. The food is tasty, and the staff is friendly, and the value is excellent. I recently took two friends there and they were very, very pleased with the meal. The ambiance is that of a small, fast service restaurant, and nothing is fancy. Their English skills are weak, but that is part of the charm. The food is very tasty, and I haven't had better, at any price, in this area. Pros: value, and taste Cons: atmosphere more

Worst Chinese EVER 6/8/2008

I live near the Chopstick House and refuse to eat there. Not only is it the worst Chinese food that I've ever eaten in my entire life, but there are rodents running around everywhere and the management is rude. I would exhaust every possible option in the Charleston area before selecting this restaurant. I would actually rather eat a pack of crackers for dinner than Chopstick House. Pros: There are no pros Cons: Poor service, Not clean, Not sanitary, Terrible food, Rude management more

Yummy take-out 5/13/2008

I used to grab a bite from this place a couple times a week when I was living downtown. It's location on King Street is very convenient and the price is perfect for the amount of food you get. I recommend their soups, especially the Egg Drop! Oh, and if you don't feel like getting it to go, there's seating in the back. Make sure you order their sweet tea, it's delicious! more

Consistent, best dowtown chinese delivery 2/4/2008

When we moved to Charleston I was bummed to learn that the Chinese delivery downtown is limited. I haven't had really good Chinese in Charleston yet, but if I order, I order from Chopsticks House. I have learned not to order anything with broccoli b/c there is so much oil in the dishes I've tried that the veggies tend to soak it up and get very soggy. I'm a fan of their hot and sour soup and the baby eggplant with garlic and shrimp is yummy! I also miss good, light bean curd options. Bean curd ordered at Charleston chinese places always comes fried. more

Excellent, friendly service with MSG-free custom cooked food & free delivery!! 8/3/2006

I ate at this place 4 times during the week I visited Charleston. They do NOT use MSG in their food. And the food is excellent! They were very accomodating of my vegan diet. I ordered the tofu w/vegetables and they used an entire box of tofu in the dish when I ordered the quart size. The sauce was great & lots of vegetables. I had ordered the food as take out 3 times and dined in once. They have a big sitting area in the back of the restaurant for dining in. The only con is it was warm in the restaurant with a fan for dining in. When I had take-out they delivered my order 100% correct as I had specified. The food tastes great! They will substitute, remove, add different veg/meat to suit your tastes! Very friendly customer service. The young man who takes orders at the front counter speaks good English and communication is smooth and easy. They also have very easily affordable prices. They offer the food in two quanitities: one pint (approx $5) and one quart (approx $7). They give generous portions of food in the order. They dont put your food in styrofoam containers, which are unhealthy for you. They put your food in plastic containers which done leak the sauce and the rice comes in the traditional paper containers. The restaurant is family owned and authentic Chinese cooking. For those of you staying in downtown Charleston, they have free delivery which is really convenient. I stayed outside of downtown so I had to park on the street, which was the only inconvenience but the food was worth the parking. After 6pm parking on the streets is free. If you go before then, a quarter gets your 20 minutes at the parking meter. Give this place a try and you wont regret it! I wish they had one of these restaurants in North Carolina. Pros: NO MSG in food, big portions, vegetarian/vegan friendly Cons: have to park on the street (free parking after 6pm), warm in the restaurant more

Best option for downtown Chinese Delivery 4/11/2006

Nothing Special here, but good consistent quality. Chopsticks House is the best Chinese that we've found that will deliver in downtown Charleston. Pros: delivery, consistent quality more
