New to San Diego and we wanted a restaurant within walking distance. Chose Chopahn based on recommendations. So happy we did. We had excellent service (restaurant wasn't busy--Tuesday night) and the side dish the server suggested was fantastic: Kadu (sauted pumpkin, topped with yogurt and meat sauce). It's available as an entree as well, and I will certainly be going back for that. I was licking my lips for 30 minutes after the meal. My Sabsi Challaw (chunks of lamb cooked with fresh spinach, onions and garlic, served with seasoned basmati rice) was wonderfully spiced--pretty much the best version of lamb saag I've had (and I love Indian food). My husband had the Samarooq Challaw (tender breast of chicken sauted with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and green peppers served with seasoned white basmati rice). All the ingredients were very tasty and fresh--but no outstanding additional spices/flavors. He went with this dish as he tries to minimize his red meat intake, and there are many red meat dishes on the menu. Both of our entrees were under $18 and the side was just $6. While not cheap, the prices were reasonable. Can't wait to go again!
