The Verdict
The China Lantern used to be a fairly good bet for Chinese food, but it seems to have fallen upon hard times. The interior is shabby and dirty, the food greasy.
The Scene
On a recent visit, its parking lot was full of cars, but they were not those of people who had arrived to enjoy its cuisine and atmosphere. Instead they were serious drinkers taking advantage of a $1-a-drink special in the cocktail lounge. The DUI squad should have stationed its officers outsidethey would have had plenty of action.
The Food
Even a simple dish like fried rice lacked flavor and the extras that give it personality; it was bland and thin. One positive, however, did stand out: The China Lantern's service is still friendly, considerate and fast.
