Josephina 3/23/2006

i visited josephina (located near Times Square) for lunch during the week. my friend and i both ordered the three course prix-fixe for about $20. the appetizer and entree were good but the dessert I thought was the most amazing! i almost ordered another one. after dessert, the owner/manager of the restaurant came to chat with us and offered us each a glass of drink on the house. very friendly service but the food was not all that impressionable (just the dessert was) more

Pre-Show With Class 3/19/2006

Take your theater date to dinner in style at Chez Josephine. Was anyone else obsessed with Lynn Whittaker in The Josephine Baker Story? This restaurant is owned by the some of the real Josephine and is filled with some memorabilia from the chanteuse's life. The bathrooms are some of the best in the city and the food is good too (ha ha). I enjoy classic comfort food here and some devilish cocktails. more

Possibly the Best French Food in Manhattan 3/16/2006

It’s pricey, it’s hard to get into, but it’s more than worth it. The food, mostly French cuisine (with a little bit of American thrown in for less adventurous eaters), is of only the very top quality, as is the atmosphere: 20’s and 30’s themed, because of the place’s namesake (Josephine Baker), with nightly live piano music and impeccable service. But if you want to go there, plan in advance; it’s the sort of place where you generally need a reservation if you want to eat during the midtown dinner rush (6-9PM), especially on weekends. On weekdays or early weekend evenings, though, you might be able to walk in and get a table. The prices reflect the quality of the food; last time I went, each of the three people in my party ordered an appetizer and a main course, and the bill came to about $130 before tip. But as I said, it’s well worth it, especially for a special occasion. Try their seafood; you won’t believe your taste buds. more
