I did not get a good feeling from these mechanics from the very first. There is no Jeep body shop on the island here, so the Jeep dealer recommends that you use the Chevy body shop. That may be the dumbest mistake they've made.
Our door hinge needed welding on the driver's side door. I'd had it looked at in a Jeep dealer before twice, and was told it would NOT need to be replaced. This is apparently a common problem with the year model Jeep I had.
I think his name was Steve, but I'm not sure, he began telling us after opening the door and seeing what it did (but not what part was causing it) and swore up and down we needed a new door. And then, of course, after that we'd need a paint job to make it match. My husband went in to talk to him first, and then we discussed it. I was not comfortable and wanted a second opinion. When the Jeep dealer told me this was their recommended shop I gave it another chance and I went to talk to "Steve".
He proceeded to tell me we HAD to have a new door and that my husband had already agreed to the work (he most certainly had NOT) and the estimate had been given to my husband (also not true) and it would be about $1000. He then proceeded to passive aggressively call us cheap the entire time we discussed it. He had no answer for why the manufacturer said no new door would be needed.
I went to another Jeep dealer, off the island and inconvenient, and used their recommended shop. ONE day and $300 later, we had our door fixed and it hasn't made a creak since.
I would never use this shop, or even this dealership again, after this experience.
