My partner loves Italian, so we headed down the street to try out Chef Toms. We went quite early, around 6 pm, and there were quite a few people there. I think the only possible reason it's possible is it's proximity to the cheap second run movie theatre (same parking lot). Lots of families, who let their children delight us by running around and screaming. One baby literally screamed for 20 solid minutes.\r
The service.........well, we sat for at least 10 minutes (I timed after sitting for a while) with nothing. No water, no drinks, so contact with any server. And they didn't appear short staffed, it's a rather small restaurant and I saw at least four servers and two hostesses. When our server finally wandered over, we ordered immediately. She seemed disappointed that we hadn't chosen the buffet, and we'd soon discover why.\r
Our salads came fairly promptly, but the food took a very long time. I had fettucini alfredo, and he had tortellini with marinara sauce. Nothing we ordered even made cooking meat necessary....yet the service dragged. After we finally got our food it was...okay. Not great, not awful, just average.\r
Our server then hid for the next 40 minutes, presumably in the kitchen, for what reason I couldn't say. We weren't nasty about the long wait at all. A couple was seated behind us, and told her they weren't ready yet. Then we got our food and they sat....and sat....and sat. They finally walked out.\r
We finally got our check, paid, and escaped. Took at takeout menu (he liked the tortellini better than I liked the alfredo, so I guess takeout is an option).\r
The servers, except for one, seemed very young, like high school young. Perhaps they're intimidated by a rush, or something. But between the slow to nonexistant service and the parents who feel that a screaming baby improves the dining experience for all, I'd say avoid at all costs. There's better out there.
Pros: Food is okay, prices fine
Cons: terrible service, screaming children
