vinyl is back 12/28/2005

Remember the good 'ole days when you could walk down the block to get the latest and greatest record? Well Cheapo tries to recreate that environment with their massive selection of cds, tapes, and vinyl, all at a very reasonable price. I was able to get two of my favorite compact discs for two dollars each, both in immaculate condition! more

great selection 9/15/2005

I have found some great CD's here in the past. It's within walking distance so a stop every once a while will land me with something I didn't have in mind purchasing, which can be good and bad:) I like the atmosphere of the store and the staff is really friendly from my experience. Give this a try as it's fun running across music you totally forgot about! more

Cheapo Disks 8/28/2005

Great place if you have plenty of time to dig and nothing specific in mind. I found some great stuff there by spending over an hour at a time in the store. Staff is not very helpful, but friendly. If you are looking for a specific thing, Ebay is still your best bet. more

the joy is in the searching 8/20/2005

I love to go to cheapo without any real plan in mind. I just flip through the CDs until something catches my eye. You can listen to the CDs before you buy, and can return if you get buyer's remorse. I recommend trying Cheapo and Applause across the street. You can't get a better value than a used CD. It's also nice to stick it to the man and his 16 dollar new releases. On the other hand, popular titles disappear quickly. Gentlemen, start your searching... more

An Alternative for Alternative 8/20/2005

A nice alternative to the more expensive music stores. I appreciate that they sell both used and new cds, as it makes it easier to buy that cd you aren't sure if you will like it, if it is less expensive. They have a decent selection, and I have been surprised at some fairly obscure albums I have found there. However, on more than one occiaion, they did not have things that seemed more mainstream. If you are looking for something specific, call ahead before stopping by. more

Good selection, decent prices 8/18/2005

Cheapo is a great music store. It provides a good alternative to all of the big box retailers like Best Buy. Cheapo has a lot of new and used music at reasonable prices. They also buy used discs. Beware, like selling used textbooks back at the school bookstore, you are not going to get much in return for your music! more

Great place to find local artists 8/17/2005

Cheapo Discs on Snelling Ave. in St. Paul is a small shop with a great atmosphere. Although you'll have to do a little digging through their alphabetized stacks, you're sure to find a wide variety of CDs, from local artists to musicals to out-of-production albums. The prices are pretty good, and overall this is a nice alternative to big stores like Best Buy. more
